MONTICELLO, ARKANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State is in Arkansas after opening a three game series with Arkansas Monticello. The Weevils came back to win game one after sending the game into extra innings before jumping out to an early lead in game two and sealing that win 8-4.
The Rangers fall to 16-13 on the season with a 7-10 GAC record while Arkansas Monticello improves to 17-11 and a 11-6 conference mark.Â
GAME ONE:Â
Connor Green led the offense with three hits in the game while driving in one run and scoring one. Rangers had three players with an RBI each as Dylan Bradford, Green and Harley Shaffer all had one.Â
Will Kates struck out four in 5 ? innings of work while Elias Herrera finished with two strikeouts in 3 ? innings.Â
Northwestern was able to strike first in the game after both teams were scoreless in the first two innings, the Rangers in the third inning had a leadoff single by Vetal before an RBI single by Connor Green pushed across the game's first run.
Arkansas Monticello, trying to answer, drew two walks in the inning but a strike out and fly out kept the Rangers in front 1-0 after the Weevils stranded two on base.Â
Rangers extended the lead in the fourth inning after a Colby Grace leadoff single led to an RBI single into left field extending the Ranger lead to 2-0.Â
The home team was able to answer back in the fourth inning after a leadoff double came around to score on a Poppy single to left, as the Rangers led 2-1 through four innings of play.Â
Arkansas Monticello tied the game in the sixth inning at 2-2 following a one out triple by Poppy leading to an RBI groundout to even the score.Â
Northwestern answered back though in the seventh inning after loading the bases Shaffer was able to draw the walk to force in the third run as Connor Green scored.
It was in the ninth inning when the Weevils came back to tie the game once more after a leadoff single to right field would eventually lead to a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3.Â
 Arkansas Monticello got the walk off win over the Rangers after a single and an error loaded the bases before an RBI walk off single to take game one over Northwestern.Â
GAME TWO:
Zach Vetal and Connor Green led the team with two hits each. Dylan Bradford, Carson Wright, and Vetal each had an RBI in the game.Â
Arkansas Monticello carried their momentum from the walk off win into the second game striking for three runs in the opening inning for the early lead. The inning started with a leadoff double he later scored on a stolen base and an error for the early 1-0 lead. The bases were loaded before the Weevils drew back to back walks for the 3-0 lead in the first, a fly out to right field ended the inning.Â
The Rangers were able to get one back in the second inning after a leadoff double by Barcello led to a Chad Green single for first and third. A Grace double play pushed across the Rangers first run of the game trailing 3-1.Â
Arkansas Monticello answered in the second inning off two singles setting up a runner on third before Hawthorne scored on the wild pitch. The Weevils extended their lead in the third inning when Jones tripled in two runs before scoring on a sacrifice fly as the Rangers trailed 7-1.Â
Rangers went down in order twice before the Weevils extended their lead on an RBI double to left field to take an 8-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.Â
Northwestern's comeback bid in the seventh inning fell short after two walks started the inning. Vetal followed with an RBI double to right center field before a sacrifice fly by Bradford had the Rangers down 8-3. Carson Wright reached on an error as Vetal scored and the Rangers trailed 8-4. Arkansas Monticello struck out the next two hitters to seal the 8-4 win over the Rangers and the doubleheader sweep.Â
The Rangers close out the series on Saturday against the Weevils with first pitch scheduled for noon in Monticello, Arkansas.Â
