MONTICELLO, ARKANSAS - The Ranger Baseball team closed out the three-game series with Arkansas Monticello Saturday afternoon, as the Weevils used a strong start taking an early 3-0 lead before closing out the 13-2 win over the Rangers.
Northwestern falls to 16-14 on the season with a 7-11 conference mark. Arkansas Monticello improves to 18-11 on the season with a 12-6 conference record.
Northwestern was led in hitting by Carson Wright with three hits on the afternoon driving in one of the two runs. Connor Green drove in the second run for the Rangers. Chad Green finished the game with two hits.Â
Rangers looked to score early with a one-out double by Wright but were not able to strike first as the Weevils worked around the jam. Arkansas-Monticello then struck in their half of the inning after a single and a walk set up first and second leading to a three-run home run for Cripps giving the home team the 3-0 lead.Â
Northwestern, looking to answer, had a leadoff double and a single setting up first and third but a double play helped Arkansas Monticello escape the inning.
The Rangers offense struck in the third inning after a Chase Hamilton single led to a Carson Wright RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1. Connor Green followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 3-2.Â
The Weevils answered with one in their half of the inning after setting up runners on the corners, the runner on third crossing the plate on a double play. Arkansas-Monticello extended the lead to 5-2 after a double led to an RBI single as the original three-run lead was back in favor of the Weevils.Â
Arkansas-Monticello's lead stayed at three until the seventh inning when the Weevils pushed four across the plate. The first run scored on an RBI double by Tanner scoring Garrett. This led to a 3-RBI double that put the Weevils in front 9-2.
Rangers had a double to left field by Chad Green but were not able to score before Arkansas Monticello struck for four more runs in the eighth to seal the win over the Rangers. Garrett hit a 2-run home run to score the first two before Woolf hit a home run driving in two runs for the 13-2 win over the Rangers.Â
Northwestern is on the road Tuesday, March 25th for a mid week game against Newman University. The Rangers return to conference action on Friday and Saturday against Southern Nazarene.Â
