GOODWELL, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State run-ruled Oklahoma Panhandle State on Monday afternoon with a 12-2 victory. The Rangers used a six RBI performance from Carson Wright to take control of the game before closing out the win.
The Rangers improved to 21-14 with the fifth straight victory, including five straight scoring double-digit runs.
Carson Wright led the offense with a three-hit, six RBI performance scoring two runs in the win. Connor Green and Zach Vetal added 2-RBI in the game.
Karter Simon got the start, striking out four in four innings of work. Brady Welker, Matthew Potts, and Kyle Holzer combined for four scoreless innings, while Welker got the win, striking out two in two innings.
Oklahoma Panhandle State jumped out first in the game in the opening inning after a leadoff double and bunt single set up runners on the corners with nobody out. It was a double play that pushed across the game's first run as the Aggies led 1-0 through the first.
It was the third inning when the Rangers struck for two runs to take Northwestern's first lead of the game after a double by Trevor Saire and a single from Dylan Bradford led to a Carson Wright 2-RBI triple to left center, scoring two runs for the 2-1 Ranger lead.
The Aggies took advantage of a Ranger error in the fourth inning, allowing a runner to reach second leading to an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2.
Wright then pushed the Rangers in front for good with this three-run blast to give the Rangers a 5-2 lead after a single and a walk led to the home run.
Chad Green hit the Rangers' second home run of the game with a solo home run to extend the lead to 6-2. The Rangers put two runners on base before Carson Wright delivered his sixth RBI of the game with a single to center, scoring Colby Grace. He was followed by Connor Green, who hit a 2-RBI double to center field for the 9-2 lead.
The eighth inning continued for the Rangers as Hagen Barcello doubled to center field, scoring Connor Green for the 10-2 lead. Zach Vetal followed with a 2-RBI single, scoring Barcello and Chad Green for the 12-2 lead, putting the game away.
Kyler Holzer closed out the game with a perfect eighth inning to complete the run rule win over Oklahoma Panhandle State with the 12-2 win completing the season sweep over the Aggies.
Northwestern Oklahoma State is back home on Wednesday, April 2nd, against Washburn University before returning to conference play on Friday against Oklahoma Baptist.
