ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball opened the three game series with Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday evening. The Rangers scored in back to back innings to lead the whole way before closing out the 3-1 victory.
The Rangers improved to 12-9 on the season and 4-6 in Great American Conference play after the fourth straight conference win.Â
Carson Wright led the team with three hits in the game followed by Dylan Bradford with two. Chase Hamilton, Carson Wright, and Hagen Barcello each drove in a run.Â
Northwestern pitching was led by Will Kates throwing eight innings striking out seven batters earning the win. Elias Herrera threw the ninth inning earning the save striking out one.
After a perfect first inning the Rangers were looking to strike first with a lead off single and a stolen base by Dylan Bradford but the Savage Storm were able to escape keeping the game at 0-0.Â
In the second inning Southeastern had a double but Will Kates worked around the hit to keep the game at 0-0, before striking with the game's first run in the second.Â
In the home half of the second inning Carson Wright had a single and a stolen base before an RBI by Chase Hamilton put the Rangers in front 1-0 as Wright went around to score.Â
The Rangers defense turned an inning ending double play to keep the game at 1-0 before extending the lead in the third. Northwestern had a lead off walk by Colby Grace before a stolen base set him in scoring position leading to an RBI double by Hagen Barcello as the Rangers led 2-0.
Southeastern put two runners on base in the fourth inning but back to back ground out helped the Rangers escape the inning with the 2-0 lead. The Rangers loaded the bases in the fourth inning but a strikeout and a ground out kept the game at 2-0.Â
The score remained 2-0 into the seventh inning when Southeastern hit a solo home run by Mueller for the 2-1 lead for the Rangers. In the home half of the inning the Rangers answered after a lead off double by Connor Green. Carson Wright drove Green in with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning for the 3-1 lead.Â
Rangers loaded the bases in the eighth inning looking to add more runs but were not able to score as Southeastern worked around the jam.Â
In the ninth inning Herrera came in and picked up one strikeout before closing out the 3-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.Â
Northwestern returns to action to close out the series with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM with the second game to follow.
