DURANT, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball started a three game series with Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant with a Friday afternoon doubleheader. Southeastern used five runs in their final two at bats to take the 6-1 win in game. They took both games of the doubleheader after scoring five runs in the opening three innings for the 5-0 win.
Northwestern drops to 4-12 on the season with a 1-7 conference record.Â
GAME ONE:Â
In the first game Northwestern was led in hits by Avery Clark with two including a solo home run for the Rangers one RBI and run scored. Macy Spearman and Makanalei Lapera each had a hit.
Both teams were held scoreless in the opening frame of the game as the Rangers worked around a two out single. The scoring started in the second inning on a solo home run by Avery Clark to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.Â
Southeastern answered right back with a solo home run of their own on a home run by McMurray for the 1-1 tie game. Southeastern put two more runners on base but the Rangers worked around the jam for the 1-1 game.Â
Northwestern, looking to get the run back had back to back singles by Lapera and Spearman but a pop up and strikeout kept the game at 1-1. The game stayed tied until the fifth inning when the Savage Storm took their first lead of the game.Â
The inning started with a single back up the middle before the 2-run home run by Olivares for the 3-1 Southeastern Oklahoma State lead.Â
After the Rangers were retired in order the Savage Storm were able to extend their lead after putting the first two runners on base led to a single to left center for the 4-1 lead before a ground out pushed the home team's lead to 5-1. Simmons followed with an RBI single for the 6-1 lead over the Rangers.Â
In the seventh inning the Rangers had a single by Clark but were unable to strike for a run as the Savage Storm closed out the 6-1 win over the Rangers.Â
GAME TWO:Â
In game two of the afternoon Northwestern was led in hits by Rachel Sherwood with two in the game as Jadyn Muns, Makanalei Lapera, and Kennedi Caine each had a hit.Â
 Northwestern, looking to strike first, had a single by Muns, and Sherwood to put two runners on base before a strikeout closed out the inning for the Rangers. Southeastern carried the momentum into an early lead following a Ranger error to take a 1-0 lead.Â
It was the second inning when Southeastern struck again this time it was a single and a hit by pitch to put two runners on before the big blast on a three run home run to give Southeastern the 4-0 lead.Â
The third inning the Savage Storm extended their lead with the final run of the game as a double and a walk led to a single down into right field for the 5-0 Storm lead.Â
The Rangers had a hit in the fourth looking to answer back on Southeastern but the single by Sherwood was the only hit as the Rangers trailed 5-0 after four innings. Southeastern was able to work around a second jam in the fifth inning after two singles pushed a runner in scoring position.Â
Southeastern closed out the shutout victory over the Rangers with the 5-0 win over Northwestern and the doubleheader sweep.
Northwestern will close the series against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for Noon.Â
