Rangers Blast Five Home Runs for Series Opening Win

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball opened the series against Henderson State powering the way to a 13-3 victory after five home runs including two from Harley Shaffer. Rangers used a four run fifth inning to open a five run lead before closing out the 10 run victory for the 11th straight win.

Northwestern improves to 27-14 on the season with a 14-11 conference record as Henderson State falls to 21-18 on the year with a 14-11 conference record. 

Hagen Barcello and Harley Shaffer had team highs with four hits and three runs scored in the win. Shaffer and Colby Grace led the team each with a 4-RBI evening. Will Kates threw 6 2/3 innings striking out eight, before Dawson Toborg pitched the final 1 1/3 innings striking out two.

Henderson State opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Rangers had Carson Wright reach third but was unable to score as the Reddies led 1-0 after the first. 

The second inning the Rangers battled back with two solo home runs in the second inning as Hagen Barcello, and Harley Shaffer both hit solo home runs to left center field to take a 2-1 lead. 

Henderson State answered back to quickly tie the game after a Rice RBI double to right field scoring Jones. 

The Rangers regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning after a Chase Gordon solo home run put the Rangers back in front 3-2. Chad Green hit an RBI single driving in Wright to extend the lead to 4-2. 

Henderson State cut the Ranger lead in half with a sacrifice fly bringing the Reddies back within one at 4-3. 

Northwestern added more runs in the home half of the fifth inning after a Grace single to right field scored Chad Green for a 5-3 lead. Harley Shaffer then hit his second home run of the game with a three run blast to left center as the Rangers went in front 8-3.

The Rangers continued to extend the lead after back to back singles led to an RBI single for Chase Gordon and a 9-3 lead. Carson Wright then followed with an RBI single as the Rangers took a seven run lead into the eighth inning. 

Northwestern ended the game in the eighth inning after putting two runners on base led to Colby Grace hitting the walk off run rule victory for the Rangers for the team's fifth home run of the game. The Rangers won the series opener 13-3 over the Reddies making it 11 straight wins. 

The Rangers look for the series victory over Henderson State with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch of game one will be scheduled for noon.
