Rangers Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Henderson State

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball closed out a three-game series with Henderson State on Saturday afternoon. The Reddies snapped the Rangers' 11 11-game win streak by winning both games over the Rangers and taking the series win.

Northwestern falls to 27-16 on the season with a 14-13 conference record following the two games. 

GAME ONE: 

Chase Gordon led the Rangers offense with three hits and two runs scored in the game, while Carson Wright led the team with a 3-RBI game. 

Henderson State started the scoring in the first inning after back-to-back walks led to a three-run home run scoring Rice and Farrar for the early 3-0 lead over the Rangers. 

Northwestern had a base runner, but a double play helped the Reddies out of the inning before adding to their lead with a second three run inning. Started with a solo home run in the second inning before a Rice RBI single followed by a Gregg RBI groundout to take a 6-0 lead over the Rangers. 

The third inning is when the Rangers got on the board with a Wright ground out followed by a Connor Green RBI single to cut the Ranger deficit to 6-2 against the Reddies. 

The score remained 6-2 into the fifth inning when Gordon led off with a single by a Carson Wright two run home run bringing the deficit to 6-4. Barcello followed with a triple down the right field line, scoring Gavin Mendoza and bringing the deficit back down to 6-5. 

Henderson State extended their lead with a couple of insurance runs with a two run home run in the eighth inning to take a 9-5 lead. The Reddies scored one more run in the ninth inning after a solo home run by Vasquez to take a 10-5 lead over the Rangers.

The Rangers got two hits in the ninth inning, but the Reddies were able to close out the inning to seal the game one victory over the Rangers with a 10-5 victory.

GAME TWO: 

Trevor Saire led the Rangers in game two of the day with a three-hit performance. Gavin Mendoza led the way with a 5-RBI game after a grand slam. Harley Shaffer and Chase Gordon each had a 2-RBI day. 

Henderson State used a couple of first inning runs to take an early lead after a leadoff double followed by a Rice RBI single. Vasquez later drove in a second run with an RBI single for the 2-0 lead. 

The score remained 2-0 into the third inning when the Reddies struck for three more runs, extending the lead after a solo home run for the 3-0 lead. This was followed by a walk leading to a two-run home run and a 5-0 Reddies lead. 

The Rangers answered, though with a four-run inning. Started with a walk and a double before the Rangers loaded the bases before the big blast. Gavin Mendoza hit a grand slam to cut the Ranger deficit down to 5-4 in the third inning. 

Northwestern took the first lead of the game with a big fourth inning. Started with a single and a double, leading to a Chase Gordon double to right field, scoring Saire and Shaffer for the 6-5 lead. Chad Green singled in a run for the 7-5 lead before a Mendoza RBI single for the 8-5 lead over the Reddies. 

Henderson State answered the Rangers four run inning with a four run inning of their own. Started by a Schork RBI single scoring Rice. The Reddies later answered in the inning with a three run home run taking a 9-8 lead over the Rangers. 

In the sixth inning the Reddies used a grand slam to extend the lead to 13-8. In the seventh inning Henderson State scored their final runs with an RBI single and a RBI walk for the 16-8 lead. 

After a Henderson State error this led to a Harley Shaffer home run to center field before the final out as the Rangers dropped game three of the series 16-10.

The Rangers will travel to Arkadelphia for a three-game series against Ouachita Baptist starting on Friday, April 18th.
