ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State closed out the series against Henderson State with a 9-4 victory over the Reddies. The Rangers scored in each of the final three innings to extend the lead before closing out the five-run victory.
The Rangers are now 10-30 in the season and have a 6-20 conference record.
Kaitlyn Corn led the Rangers in hits with a three-hit performance while adding two runs scored and a 2-RBI game. Kirby Van Haren had two hits and a 4-RBI day. Chloe Brown pitched 6.2 innings, earning her fifth win of the season.
Each team scored early, starting with the Rangers. After loading the bases in the first inning, Avery Clark had a walk, forcing in a run for the RBI and the early 1-0 lead. She was followed by a Van Haren RBI single to left field for the 2-0 lead.
Henderson State answered with one run, cutting the home team deficit in half as an RBI single had the Rangers lead down to 2-1.Â
The Rangers were able to extend the lead in the top of the third inning After a Clark single and a walk to Van Haren led to a Macy Spearman single to right field for an RBI single driving in Corn for the 3-1 lead.Â
Henderson State, though, answered back with a solo home run by Hoskins, cutting the Ranger lead down to 3-2.Â
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Rangers added to the lead in the fifth inning after a Corn and Clark single led to a Kirby Van Haren three run home run to left field taking a 6-2 lead over the Reddies.Â
Henderson State scored in their half of the fifth inning after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring two runs and cutting the Ranger lead down to 6-4.
In the sixth inning, Rachel Sherwood hit a double to center field, leading to a Kaitlyn Corn 2-run home run to center field for an 8-4 lead over the Reddies. Northwestern was able to add one more run after a Spearman walk and stolen base had her in scoring position, leading to an RBI single by Rosemary Rivera for the 9-4 lead.Â
Henderson State put two runners on base but were not able to score as the Rangers closed out the 9-4 win on the road over Henderson State.Â
Northwestern will return home for seven straight games at home starting with Newman on Tuesday afternoon. The Rangers then return to conference play with a three game series against Ouachita Baptist.
