Rangers Fall in Playoff Game to Arkansas Monticello

ENID, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball played the second game in the Great American Conference tournament Friday afternoon. Arkansas Monticello took the game over the Rangers 13-5 following a four-home run performance by the Weevils' offense.

 

Northwestern ends the season with a 30-22 record overall. 

 

The Ranger offense was led by Harley Shaffer and Trevor Saire, with two hits each in the game. Northwestern had three individuals, each with an RBI from Trevor Saire, Hagen Barcello, and Carson Wright.

 

Arkansas Monticello struck first in the game after two singles and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out. This led to a double play scoring the game's first run and a 1-0 lead for the Weevils. 

 

Northwestern was able to quickly get the run back after two singles put a runner in scoring position before Saire hit into a fielder's choice, allowing a run to score on the error, tying the game at one. 

 

Sandoval held Monticello scoreless over the next three innings as the Rangers were able to take their first lead of the game. Starting with a one-out single and stolen base by Colby Grace, before Trevor Saire doubled down the line, scoring Grace and the 2-1 Ranger lead. 

 

Arkansas Monticello came back in the fifth inning after a single and a walk set up the three-run blast by Woolf for the 3-2 Arkansas Monticello advantage. The Weevils were able to later in the bottom of the sixth inning following an RBI single to extend the lead before a Hawthorne blast a three-run homer, to regain the lead for Arkansas Monticello. 

 

In the sixth inning, Arkansas Monticello was able to push the lead to six at the time after an RBI single followed by a home run, as the Rangers trailed 8-2.

 

The Rangers were able to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a single by Chase Gordon and hit an RBI double, scoring Wright. Barcello followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Chad Green as the Rangers cut the deficit in half at 8-4. Arkansas Monticello answered back with a two-run home run, making the game 10-4. 

 

Rangers scored one in the 8th inning after a leadoff triple by Harley Shaffer, scoring on a Monticello error as the Rangers trailed in the 8th. After Arkansas Monticello extended their lead. 

 

Into the ninth inning, the Rangers trailed 13-5 before Arkansas Monticello closed out the eight-run victory over the Rangers to advance in the Great American Conference tournament.
