WICHITA, Kan. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer team defeated Newman, 2-1, on a rainy Wednesday night.
After storms in the area caused a 75-minute delay, the Rangers got off to quick start with
Christi-Anne Mills scoring the opening goal a few seconds before the 10-minute mark. The Jets responded with a goal of their own to send the game to halftime tied 1-1.
The Jets sent shot after shot in the second half, but
Alexa Flores saved all five shots on goal to shut down the Newman offense. In the 72nd minute,
Christi-Anne Mills struck again to put the Rangers on top, 2-1.
Christi-Anne Mills finished with all four shots on goal for the Rangers, while
Emerson Curd had two shots and
Jenna Mills and
Katy Jo Werner each had one.
Jenna Mills and Werner also finished with one assist each.
The win moves the Rangers to 4-0-1, making it five straight games without a loss, making it the best start for Northwestern since joining Division II and the longest unbeaten streak since October of 2022, when the Rangers went nine straight games without a loss.
The Rangers will be back in action on Sept. 20th, as they take on New Mexico Highlands University at noon at the Alva Recreation Complex.
