Northwestern Drops Two in Day Two of the Missouri S&T Tournament

ROLLA, MISSOURI - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Women's Volleyball team dropped two tough matches to wrap up day two of the Missouri S&T tournament. Losing in straight sets to Minnesota State University Mankato and fighting to a five set loss against Christian Brothers Univeristy.

 

The Rangers dropped three straight sets to Minnesota State University Mankato in match one of the day. 25-22,25-14 and 25-16. Northwestern would jump out to an early lead in set one getting up by as much as five points. The Mavericks would surge back and tie the set at nine. The two sides would trade the lead for the remainder but the Mavericks would come out on top in the end.

 

 Northwestern would battle tough in the next two sets as well, but could not overcome the Mavericks. The Rangers were led in points by Ivanny Blackwood who recorded seven kills and one ace to account for eight Northwestern points. Mikayla White contributed 17 assists for Northwestern leading the team in that category.

 

The Rangers bounced back in match two of the day against Christian Brothers taking the first set in dominating fashion 25-13. However Northwestern dropped set two to Chrisitan Brothers 25-19. Northwestern bounced back in set three for an exciting 25-14 win giving them the advantage going into set number 4. The Buccaneers would tie the match at two sets a piece taking set 4 25-20. The Rangers battled tough in the fifth and final set of the match but fell short 15-13 in the fifth and final set. Naya Danenberg led the lady Rangers in points with 18 and Mikayla White led the way in assists with 52 in the match.

 

Northwestern will be in action again on Thursday September 11th at the Tiger Classic in Hays, Kansas.
