LAWTON, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team went 0-2 against Cameron University on Wednesday.
Pitching was a strong suit for both teams in Game 1. Pitcher
Katy Jones threw three strikeouts and allowed four hits of the day. Pitcher
Madelyn Cason threw one strikeout and one hit in her lone inning. Cameron's pitcher struck out Ranger batters 11 times.Â
Both teams struggled offensively as the Rangers only had two hits and Cameron had five hits but only scored two runs. The Rangers dropped Game one 0-2.
The hitting slumped continued for the Rangers in Game 2. Cameron took an early 3-0 lead after a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. The Rangers responded with a strong defensive inning in the bottom of the second with pitcher Grace Husley ending the inning with a strike out. In the top of the third,Â
Kaitlyn Corn homered to cut Cameron's lead 3-1. Northwestern's defense held stagnant as the Rangers scored another run in the top of the fifth cutting Camerons lead to 3-2.Â
The Rangers defense could not hold in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning as they gave up six runs to the Aggies. Freshman pitcher
Ruby Nichols was a bright spot for the Rangers as she recorded her first career collegiate strikeout.Â
