RUSSELVILLE, AR. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball team went 0-2 on the first day of their series against the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns.
Game 1 opened with a leadoff single from Kaitlyn Corn. The Rangers grounded out into a double play to end the inning. The Golden Suns went down in order, and the game was scoreless after 1.
Taygan Graham singled in the top of the second inning but was left stranded on the base as the Rangers failed to capitalize. The Golden Suns opened the bottom of the second inning with a single. After a sacrifice single, the first run of the game was scored by the Golden Suns. Arkansas Tech hit a triple and later scored after an RBI single for the second run of the game.
Kaitlyn Corn singled again at the top of the third inning but was left stranded on the bases for the second time of the game. The Golden Suns opened the bottom of the third with back-to-back homers.
The Rangers went down in order in the top of the fourth. The Golden Suns added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Rangers were not able to create enough offense in the top of the fifth to avoid the run rule. Golden Suns take Game 1 8-0.
Kaitlyn Corn led the team with two singles.
Jamie Molina got on base to start Game 2 but the Rangers batting struggles continued as they couldn't find a way to send her home. The Golden Suns offense continued being hot in Game 2. They hit a home run in their second at bat to go up 1-0.
The Golden Suns walked three Ranger batter to load the bases to begin the top of the second inning. Kaitlyn Corn hit an RBI single to get the Rangers first run of the day. The Rangers grounded out to end the inning tied at 1-1. The Golden Suns retook the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second to go up 2-1.
The Ranger bats went silent in the top of the third as the Golden Suns got three straight outs. Arkansas Tech hit a two run homer in their at bat to add to their lead. They led 4-1 after the third.
Kate Bezdicek singled to get on base for the Rangers in the top of the fourth. The Rangers would ground out into a double play to end the inning with no runs scored. Senior Pitcher Chloe Brown entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and got three straight outs including a strikeout.
The Rangers couldn't muster enough offense as they struck out 10 times in the 4-1 loss. Chloe Brown threw 3 strikeouts and allowed no runs, no hits and no errors in three innings.
