ODESSA, TX - Northwestern Oklahoma State softball started a four game series with the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, TX with a Friday afternoon doubleheader. The Falcons used a four run inning in the sixth to take Game 1 5-1. They took both games of the double header after scoring three runs in the opening inning for the 3-2 win.
Northwestern could not find any offensive rhythm in Game 1. The starting pitcher for the Falcons struck out nine batters and only allowed three hits. The first hit for Northwestern came in the top of the fifth from a double by Makanalei Lapera. Savannah Duran followed with an RBI single that sent Lapera home. The Rangers had tied the game 1-1 at this point.Â
The Falcons offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth after six hits. They hit five singles, one double and the Rangers had two errors as four scored. The Rangers could not come back as they dropped Game 1 5-1. Katy Jones threw four strikeouts.Â
The Rangers offense started fast in the beginning of Game 2. Savannah Duran opened the game by getting on base with a bunt. Next, Kaylee Madden reached on base after a Falcon error. Kaitlyn Corn hit a double in the next at bat and Savannah Duran scored. Kate Bezdicek hit a single that sent Kaitlyn Corn home. Northwestern was leading 2-0 after the top of the first.Â
Like the Rangers, the Falcons offense started with a fast start as well. After two back to back singles to open the game, UTPB hit a home run that scored three runs.Â
Pitcher Grace Husley did not give up another run after the homer, but the Ranger offense could not get anything going. Northwestern drops this game 2-3.Â
