ALVA, Ok. - After a back-and-forth game, the Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball team dropped both games against the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders.
Kaitlyn Corn scored the first run of the game after a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning. Northwestern held the Muleriders scoreless until the top of the fourth inning by hitting a home run off pitcher Chloe Brown in the top of the fourth.
Jamie Molina responded with a two-run homer of her own in the bottom of the fourth. Giselle Baumbach scored after an error to add on to the lead. Northwestern led 4-1 after four innings.
Southern Arkansas battled back and erased the deficit with another home run and RBI single. After a pair of errors by Ranger defenders, the Mule Riders took the lead 6-4 after the top of the fifth inning.
Northwestern tied the game after a two RBI single by Delaynie Esterly. Northwestern would score a run off of an error to capture the lead.
Southern Arkansas tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth inning and they took Game 1 8-7.
Jamie Molina kicked off Game 2 with an RBI single to go ahead 1-0. Pitcher Katy Jones started on the mound for Northwestern. After a pair of RBI singles, Southern Arkansas took the lead 3-1 after four innings. After a pitching change, the Muleriders hit a two-run homer to add to their lead. Southern Arkansas took Game 2 5-1.
Northwestern is back in action at home for the final game of the series tomorrow.
