Rangers Drop Doubleheader Against Arkansas-Monticello

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Arkansas-Monticello on Friday, with the Rangers falling in the first game, 9-1, and the second game, 6-4.

Game 1
Arkansas-Monticello opened the scoring up with a run in the top of the first, but the Rangers countered back with a single from Alex Dabrowski, who ended up stealing second and third before being brought home by Matthew Bailey on a single to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Blake Mattern and Bailey drew back-to-back walks in the bottom of the third inning, but the Rangers could not bring them home.

The Boll Weevils tacked on a run in the top of the fourth to retake the lead, 2-1, and added on another run in the fifth to expand the lead to 3-1. Arkansas-Monticello kept building the lead with another run in the sixth, and the Rangers got a runner in scoring position with Joel Lindahl smashing a double to the left field wall, but could not bring him home. The Boll Weevils added on another run in the seventh to make it 5-1, brought the lead up to 8-1 with three runs in the eighth, and scored another in the ninth to take game one, 9-1.

Dabrowski led the Rangers in hits with three, while Bailey had the only RBI of the game.
Game 2
The Boll Weevils opened game two with four runs in the first inning, and added on another in the third to push the score to 5-0. The Rangers got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, when Chase Gordon singled up the middle to end the no-hitter. Arkansas-Monticello tacked on a run in the sixth inning to push their lead to 6-0, but the Rangers rallied in the bottom of the sixth with Jason McCarty got hit by a pitch and Dabrowski singled back to the pitcher. Mattern reached on an error to load the bases, and Bailey got hit by a pitch to bring a run home. Cole Barton brought another run home on a sacrifice fly to right field, and Gordon roped a double to right center field to cut the deficit to 6-4 going into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Trey Gray drew a walk, while McCarty reached on a fielder's choice. Dabrowski singled back to the pitcher to put a runner in scoring position, and Mattern drew a walk to load the bases. The Rangers tried to rally, but Arkansas-Monticello held on to win, 6-4.

Dabrowski and Gordon led the Rangers in hits with two each, while Gordon led in RBI with two.

The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow, as they close out the series against the Boll Weevils at noon at Myers Stadium.
