Rangers Fall to Boll Weevils in Saturday Showdown

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team fell to Arkansas-Monticello, 13-1, on Saturday.

Arkansas-Monticello started the game with a two-run top of the first, and added on three more runs in the top of the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The Rangers got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the second, as Chase Gordon ripped a double to right center field. The Boll Weevils tacked on three more runs in the third to go up 8-0, and the Rangers responded with a double to the center field wall from Jason McCarty to get another runner in scoring position, but could not bring him home.

The Boll Weevils put three more runs on the board in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 11-0, and plated two more runs in the sixth to move their lead to 13-0. Brandon Jennings put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left field, and Trey Gray brought him home with a single down the third base line to score the first run of the day for Northwestern. The Rangers tried to rally in the seventh with walks from Tyler Hogan and McCarty and a single from Alex Dabrowski to load the bases, but the Rangers fell to Arkansas-Monticello, 13-1.

Seven different Rangers recorded a hit on the day, with Gray getting the only RBI.

The Rangers will be back in action on March 24, when they travel to Goodwell to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University at 1 p.m.
