GOODWELL, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 14-3, on Tuesday.
The Rangers got off to a quick start, as
Chase Gordon drew walk before
Cole Barton singled to right field to give Northwestern the early 1-0 lead.
Joel Lindahl kept the offense going int the top of the second with a leadoff single, and
Jailon Goodfellow followed it up with a walk. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, but the Rangers could not bring them home.
Oklahoma Panhandle State tied the game in the bottom of the second at 1-1, and tacked on another run to take the lead in the bottom of the third, 2-1. The Rangers threatened in the top of the fifth, as
Alex Dabrowski drew a walk and stole second and third, while
Blake Mattern walked and stole second. Gordon loaded the bases by drawing another walk. Barton got hit by a pitch to tie the game, and
Jason McCarty ripped a single to right field to bring two runners home and give Northwestern the lead, 4-2. Lindahl kept the runs coming by reaching on an error to extend the lead to 5-2. Goodfellow blasted a single to right field to bring another run in, and gave the Rangers a 6-2 lead. Goodfellow stole second, and Dabrowski extend the lead with a two-run single to center field.
Northwestern kept pouring on runs in the top of the sixth, as Barton doubled down the left field line and McCarty singled to right to keep the Ranger lead growing. Lindahl got hit by a pitch, and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Matthew Bailey singled to left field to score two more runs, and advanced to second on a passed ball while Goodfellow drew a walk. Dabrowski roped a single to center field to tack two more runs on the board and put the Rangers up 13-2.
The Aggies plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Ranger lead to 10, but Northwestern answered back with Barton drawing a walk, moving to second on a wild pitch, and coming home on another wild pitch to move the lead back to 11 and give the Rangers a 14-3 win.
Dabrowski, Barton, and McCarty led the Rangers in hits with two, while Dabrowski led in RBI with four.
The Rangers will be back in action on Friday, when they take on Southern Nazarene at Myers Stadium at 6 p.m.
