ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team dropped both games of their two-game series against Fort Hays State, losing game one by a score of 8-0 and 10-2 in game two.
Northwestern found themselves down early in game one, as Fort Hays scored one in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Rangers fell behind two more runs in the second as the Tigers brought in two runs in the inning, however Ranger pitcher
Madelyn Cason got out of the inning without allowing another run. Cason kept the Tigers off the board in the third, while stranding a runner on second in her final inning of work.
Fort Hays expanded their lead in the bottom of the fourth adding five runs in the inning to make the score 8-0. Northwestern got one runner on in the top of the fifth but could not scratch a run across as they dropped game one in five innings.
Game two started in similar fashion as the Tigers scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. This time the Rangers answered with two runs of their own as
Makanalei Lapera scored
Kaylee Madden with a sacrifice fly to center and
Savannah Duran singled to first scoring
Natalie Ackenhausen.
The Tigers broke the tie in the bottom of the second with two more runs, before adding three in the third to put the Rangers down 7-2. Northwestern had runners on in the next two innings but could not bring anyone around to score. Fort Hays scored three more in the fifth taking game two 10-2.
Northwestern will be on the diamond next on Thursday April 2
nd as they welcome No. 15 Oklahoma Baptist comes to town for a three-game series.
