ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team defeated Washburn, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Rangers to 10-11 on the season.
Washburn struck first with a run in the top of the second, and tacked on another in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. Northwestern responded in the bottom of the inning, as
Grady Thomas singled and moved to second on a wild pitch,
Trey Gray drew a walk, and
Blake Mattern smashed a triple to the wall to tie the game at 2-2. The Ichabods plated another run in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, but the Rangers jumped in front with Mattern drawing a walk before
Amari Goodfellow drilled a ball to left field for a two-run homer to give Northwestern the lead, 4-3.
Washburn tied the game in the top of the seventh inning, but the Rangers got runners in scoring position on back-to-back hit by pitches in the bottom of the eighth followed by a single from Hogan and an RBI walk from
Jailon Goodfellow seesawed the Rangers back in front, 5-4.
Matthew Bailey singled up the middle to add another run to give Northwestern a 6-4 lead going into the ninth.
Elias Herrera shut down the Ichabods in the top of the ninth for his second save of the season to give Northwestern a 6-4 victory.
Five different Rangers each had a hit, while Mattern and
Amari Goodfellow led in RBI with two each.
