ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team defeated Southeastern, 9-6, on Friday night. The win moves the Rangers to 11-11 on the season and 4-6 in Great American Conference play.
The Rangers started with an offensive barrage, as
Alex Dabrowski walked and stole second to start the game, followed by
Blake Mattern drawing a walk.
Amari Goodfellow blasted a 3-run bomb to put the Rangers ahead, but they weren't done yet.
Cole Barton and
Joel Lindahl hit back-to-back singles, with
Matthew Bailey bringing Barton home on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 in favor of the Rangers.
Jailon Goodfellow got onboard with a walk, and
Chase Gordon smashed a single to bring Lindahl home to bring the score to 5-0.
Grady Thomas ripped a single to keep the runs coming, as the Rangers batted around in the top of the first in a six-run inning.
Southeastern responded with runs in the bottom of the first and third to cut the deficit to three, with the Rangers getting a runner in scoring position in the top of the fourth when Mattern walked,
Amari Goodfellow reached on an error, and Barton singled to right field to move
Amari Goodfellow to third. The Savage Storm tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 6-4, and added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.
Northwestern's bats came to life in the top of the eighth, as Thomas singled and Dabrowski doubled to left center to put runners at second and third.
Trey Gray was hit by a pitch, and
Amari Goodfellow ripped a single up the middle to give the Rangers the lead, 8-6. Barton struck a single to right center to bring another run home and give Northwestern a 9-6 win.
Barton led the Rangers in hits with three, and
Amari Goodfellow led in RBI with five.
Will Kates led in strikeouts with six, while
Elias Herrera earned his second win of the season and
Ryan McClaskey got his second save of the year.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series against the Savage Storm with a doubleheader at Myers Stadium starting at 1 p.m.
