Rangers Take Series Over Southeastern in Saturday Split

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team split their doubleheader against Southeastern on Saturday, winning the first game 7-4 and dropping the second game 9-2.

Game 1
The Rangers quickly jumped on the scoreboard, as Alex Dabrowski started the game by getting hit by a pitch and stealing second, followed by Blake Mattern singling to right field to bring him home and give Northwestern the early 1-0 lead. The bats continued to stay hot for the Rangers in the top of the second, as Jailon Goodfellow drew a walk and Chase Gordon smashed a double to right field to put two runners in scoring position. Grady Thomas brought Jailon Goodfellow home on a groundout, and Dabrowski brought Gordon home on a single to expand the Ranger lead to 3-0.

Northwestern continued to add on runs, as Jailon Goodfellow singled and stole second to start the fourth inning, and Thomas singled to left field to move the score to 4-0 favoring the Rangers. Thomas stole second and moved to third on a groundout from Dabrowski, and came home on a single to left field from Mattern to push the Ranger lead to 5-0. Southeastern tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the deficit, and added another in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down to 5-2.

The Rangers struck again in the seventh, as Cole Barton doubled to left field before Bailey smacked a single to left center field to increase to Northwestern lead to four. Jailon Goodfellow singled through the right side to move Bailey to second and put another Ranger in scoring position. Thomas blooped a single to shallow center field to bring Bailey home and bring the lead back up to five runs at 7-2. Dabrowski drew a walk to load the bases, but the Rangers could not do any more damage. The Savage Storm rallied in the bottom of the ninth with two runs

Barton led the Rangers in hits with three, while Thomas led in RBI with three. Trey Barkman led in strikeouts in five for his first save of the season, while Logan Sandoval recorded his third win of the season with two strikeouts and only allowing two runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Game 2
Southeastern struck first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs to take an early lead, but the Rangers answered back with Jailon Goodfellow getting on base via a fielder's choice, stealing second, and Gordon singling to center field to put the Rangers on the board. The Ranger rally continued in the top of the third, as Mattern got hit by a pitch and Amari Goodfellow singled through the left side to put a runner in scoring position. The Rangers could not bring anyone home in the third, but Gordon kept the rally going with a solo shot beyond the left center field wall to tie the game, 2-2. The Savage Storm tacked on seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead and win the game, 9-2.

Amari Goodfellow led the Rangers in hits with three, while Gordon led in RBI with two.

The Rangers will be back in action on March 10, when they host Rogers State University at Myers Stadium at 2 p.m.
