Alva, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball team split their doubleheader against the Newman Jets.
The Ranger bats were on fire in game one, as Northwestern had 10 hits in their 8-3 victory.
Makanalei Lapera hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
Junior pitcher Katy Jones pitched four innings and didn't allow a run while tossing a strikeout.
Newman took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth after the bases were loaded.
Delaynie Esterly hit an RBI double to open the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Rangers scored four more runs as they took Game 1 8-3.
Game two saw late game heroics from the Rangers. Northwestern was down 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh until Gabrielle Sanchez hit a grand slam to cut the lead to one.
Unfortunately the comeback fell short, as Newman escaped with a 5-4 win.
Northwestern will be back at home this weekend against Southwestern.
