SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team fell to Oklahoma Baptist, 11-1, on Friday.
Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to an early lead with a two-run first inning and four more runs in the second to go up 6-0 before going up 11-0 after the third inning. The Ranger offense came to life in the top of the fourth, as
Blake Mattern started the inning with a leadoff single and moved to second on a passed ball.
Chase Gordon moved Mattern to third with a single down the left field line, and
Cole Barton brought Mattern home with a single to the shortstop.
Northwestern moved runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, with
Alex Dabrowski drawing a walk and getting to second on a single from Gordon in the sixth, and
Joel Lindahl and
Matthew Bailey getting singles in the seventh. The Rangers could not bring another runner home, giving Oklahoma Baptist an 11-1 win.
Mattern and Gordon led the Rangers in hits with two each, while Barton had the only RBI of the day.
The Rangers will be back in action on April 7, as they travel to Topeka, Kansas to take on Washburn University at 2 p.m.
