TULSA, Okla.- The Northwestern men's golf team competed at the NSU Men's Classic Sept. 21-22. Mathieu Zerwin led the team to a 2nd place finish as the overall individual winner.
The season opened strong in Tulsa as six Rangers finished in the top 15. The Rangers brought two teams of five and both teams finished in the top three. Matti Zerwin won the overall tournament shooting 69-68-71 over three rounds of play. Chris Xiao finished in fourth place with scores of 72-66-72. Zac Farmer competed on team two and earned a 7th place finish tied with teammate An-chieh Tsai. Farmer shot 72-72-67, while Tsai shot 76-69-66. Sophomore Jack Collingswood and freshman Jonathan Wijanto finished tied in eleventh. Collingswood earned scores of 70-69-73 while Wijanto shot 74-69-69. Freshman Semih Engez shot for a hole in one on the fifth hole of his college debut. The two teams of Rangers finished in 2nd and 3rd place only losing to Northeastern State. Both squads defeated all seven GAC teams that were in attendance.
The Rangers return to action in Weatherford on Oct. 1, as they battle Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Perkins Cup.
