ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer team fell to Fort Hays State, 2-0, on Saturday night.
The first half was a defensive battle between the two squads, as the first shot on goal for either side came 17 minutes into the game from
Braxtyn Turner. The Tigers created two chances to score late in the first half, but the Rangers held firm to keep the game tied at 0-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Rangers immediately went on the attack with a shot from
Mylee Yuill 13 seconds into the half. Northwestern continued to put pressure on the Tigers with two shots on goal in the 51
st and 55
th minutes, but Fort Hays countered with a goal in the 69
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers tacked on another goal in the 79
th minute to get a 2-0 win.
The Tigers outshot the Rangers, 20-11, with a 12-4 differential in shots on goal.
Cassidy Fitzgerald led Northwestern in shots with four, while
Taylor Annen recorded 10 saves.
The Rangers will be back in action on Sept. 10, when they travel to Goodwell to take on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State at 5 p.m.
