ALVA, Okla. – Dakota Driskill and Tobi-Rae Barker continue to be recognized for their play during the fall sports season as the pair has been selected as the Blue Sky Media November Athletes of the Month for Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Barker was a senior member of the Northwestern volleyball team that was within two points of earning its first postseason with at the Great American Conference Tournament. In the tournament game against Harding, Barker recorded 21 digs to lead the Lady Rangers and had a game high four service aces.
Barker, a native of Snyder, Oklahoma, finished the season sixth in the country with .59 service aces per set and a total of 63 to lead the conference. She closed her career with a school record 133 service aces.
The defensive specialist also led the Lady Rangers with 62 digs during the month of November.
Driskill wrapped up the football season strong as well to help him earn the Male Athlete of the Month honors. In the final contest of the year at Southwestern Oklahoma State, Driskill picked off a pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown in a 34-point second quarter for the Rangers.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Driskill finished the season second in the GAC with 120 tackles, placing him in the top 15 tacklers in the country. For his play this season, the redshirt junior was a Second Team All-Region selection and was a GAC Honorable Mention honoree.
The Northwestern defense, anchored by Driskill roaming the middle of the field, allowed the fewest points by opposing offenses since the program started playing a NCAA Div. II schedule.
The Blue Sky Media Athletes of the Month are voted by representatives of Blue Sky Media, Northwestern head coaches and members of the NWOSU athletic communications office.
