ALVA, Okla. – Jack Peck and Jade Jones were honored this week for their work during the month of January as they were named the Blue Sky Media Northwestern Athletes of the Month. Northwestern student-athletes are voted on by the Northwestern head coaches, communications staff and Blue Sky Media representatives.
Jones, a senior from Pond Creek, Oklahoma, had a recorded breaking performance to open the month of January when she dished out 15 assists against Southern Arkansas to set a new Northwestern and Great American Conference single-game record.
A couple of weeks later on Jan. 17 at home against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Jones eclipsed the 1000-point mark in career scoring, combined between Northwestern and Southwestern.
The senior has been a big part of the current four-game road win streak the Lady Rangers have put together, a mark that hasn't been reached since the 2001-02 season. The streak began at Oklahoma Baptist, which was the Lady Rangers first win at OBU since 2007.
Peck has been named the January Male Athlete of the Month after leading the Rangers in scoring in five of the nine games during the month, averaging 15.3 points a game over the same span.
On Jan. 24 inside Percefull Fieldhouse, Peck netted what was then a career high 18 points in a Ranger uniform to lead Northwestern to a win over Harding. Two days later against Arkansas Tech, Littleton, Colorado, native raised the bar with a 22-point performance against Arkansas Tech.
Both the Rangers and Lady Rangers will be in action tomorrow evening at Southwestern Oklahoma State, followed by the first of a three-game home stand when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday. Tipoff for the Saturday games are scheduled for 1 p.m. for the women, with the men to follow.
