Northwestern run over by No. 14 Bison

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University football could not stop the No. 14 Harding option game Saturday afternoon as the Rangers fell in a Great American Conference to the Bison, 47-13.

Northwestern's record fell to 2-6 with the loss, while the Harding moved to 7-1 this season. The Rangers return home next Saturday afternoon with a showdown with Oklahoma Baptist.

Maurice Wright Jr. led the Ranger defense with 25 tackles, while Nehemiah Lewis had 12 tackles, Marcus Brent and Juan Licea was credited with 10 takedowns each. Brian Holiday, Lewis and Brent each recorded a tackle for loss.

On top of his 25 tackles Wright also forced two fumbles, with Alejandro Aaron recovering one, the lone turnover that the Bison had.

Harding came in boasting the top defense in the GAC. The Rangers offense surpassed the season average yards given up by the Bison, Northwestern collected 308 yards on offense, including 207 yards through the air and 101 yards on the ground.

Harding was only allowing 231.6 yards per game in total defense and 155.9 yards a contest in pass defense and 75.7 yards rushing per game.

Harding scored first when Malik Mathews scored from nine-yards out on the ground, Aharon Barnes blocked Grant Ennis PAT attempt.

Northwestern got on the board late in the first quarter when Torrence Stevens found Kentrez Bell on a trick play deep over the middle for a 68-yard connection. Bell was ran down and tackled at the one-yard line. The Bison defense stiffened and held the Rangers to a field goal, which Conner O'Neal made from 21-yards.

Harding answered back driving 84 yards on seven plays, capped off by a Cole Chancey one-yard run, giving the Bison a 13-3 lead.

Northwestern would end the half scoring on back-to-back drives, first when Trent Easley found a wide open Bell in the corner of the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown, then after a 59-yard completion from Easley to Gavin Garner that moved the Rangers to the two-yard line, O'Neal hit his second field goal as time expired in the first half.  

Easley finished the game 9-of-26 passing for 139 yards and the touchdown, while Stevens was 1-1 for 68 yards. Bell led the Ranger receiving corps with four catches for 108 yards and a touchdown, while Garner and Stevens each had a pair of catches. Raphael Edwards Jr. had one catch for 20 yards.

Jacob Peyton was again the leading rusher for the Rangers with 107 yards on 12 carries.

The road team came out of the half and did not surrender another score, while also collecting three touchdowns and two field goals in the later half.

Chancey was the leading rusher for the Bison with 206 yards, including a 45 yard run, with two touchdowns. As a team Harding collected 413 yards on the ground and Preston Paden was 1-2 throwing with 56 yards.
