Lady Rangers set to take on Rival Thursday/ OBU Saturday

ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern returned home for two conference games where they split the week losing to Henderson State (73-64), while beating Ouachita Baptist on Saturday (78-68) The Red-and-Black will enter the week sitting at 8-6 overall with a 4-4 record in the Great American Conference putting them in eighth place in the conference. NWOSU will have two games this upcoming week versus Southwestern Oklahoma State Thursday January 16th at 5:30 pm in Weatherford, Okla. and Oklahoma Baptist in Alva Okla. Saturday January 18th at 1:00 pm, which is the hall of fame weekend.

The Lady Rangers are led by head coach Tasha Diesselhorst who is in her fourth season with Northwestern who led the Lady Rangers to their first conference tournament appearance since joining the GAC last year. She has a 42-60 record here at Northwestern.

The Red-and-Black continue to be led by senior Kalea King, junior Bailey Brown, and senior Jakeria Otey. These three players are the three double digit scorers for Northwestern. Brown averages 15 points along with 8.1 rebounds, King 13.9 points with 5.9 rebounds, and Otey scored 10.1 points a game. Brown leads the team in rebounding at 8.1 followed by King, and Hillary Hurst. Kyleigh Leverich leads the team with 39 assists followed by Otey with 31.

Southwestern Oklahoma State: Thursday 5:30pm (11-3, 6-2)

The Lady Rangers will travel to the rival Bulldogs down in Weatherford Okla. Southwestern will come into the game at 11-3 with a 6-2 record in conference play, placing them in second place. SWOSU is coming in winning seven of their last eight including their two games last week, against Ouachita Baptist (66-55) and Henderson State (84-66).

Southwestern is led by head coach Kelsi Musick, in the middle of her 11th season with the program. She currently holds a career record of 202-111. She has won four GAC coaching of the year awards.
 
SWOSU is led by Maddie Sperle who is one of four players averaging double digits per game as she averages 14.3 points per game. She is followed by Makyra Tramble at 13.9 points per game, Tyra Aska 10.5 points per game, and Taber Beer at 10.1 points a game. Bethany Franks leads the Lady Bulldogs with 7.6 rebounds a game followed by Makyra Tramble with 6.7 and Tyra Aska 6.3 rebounds a game. Taber Beer leads Southwestern with 58 assists followed by Tyra Aska at 38.

The Lady Bulldogs attack is balanced having three different shooters with at least 20 3-pointers made in Makyra Tramble (30) Maddie Sperle (24) and Taber Beer (23).
 
Southwestern enjoys playing at home as The Lady Bulldogs come into this Weatherford game undefeated in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center this season. Their average win total in Weatherford has been by 24 points so far this season.

Southwestern leads the rivalry 13-2 in the history and come into the matchup on a six game winning streak, including three last season (78-73, 83-58, and 97-79).

Oklahoma Baptist Bison: Saturday 1:00 p.m. (4-10, 0-8)

The Lady Rangers will play their second game against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon. A day that will be remembered for the new Hall of Fame members in Northwestern Oklahoma State's program. Oklahoma Baptist will come into Alva with an 4-10 record and 0-8 in conference play which is 12th in the conference.

The Bison are led by head coach Casi Bays, who took over the basketball team in 2012. She is 122-104 with the Bison.

Oklahoma Baptist has four scorers in double figures the first one in Kalifa Ford who averages 17.7 per game, followed by Mckenzie Cooper at 15.3. Ugochinyere Nwarie adds 12.1 a game and lastly Jaylin Stapleton right at 10 points a game. Ford also leads the Bison with 8.8 rebounds per game followed by Nwarie at 5.5 rebounds. Stapleton leads the team with 64 assists followed by Mikayla Shulanberger at 32.
 
Cooper leads the team in shooting behind the arc with a 43% on 34 of 78 shooting. She has taken 31 more attempts than anyone else on the team that shoots 33% from three.

Oklahoma Baptist leads the history between the two teams 5-4. Northwestern has taken the last two meetings though including the one earlier this year 76-71 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. In that meeting King led all scorers with 25 followed by Brown and Kenzi Lamer who had 13 each.
