Rangers Set for Trip to Arkadelphia

Alva Okla. – The Lady Rangers will travel to Arkansas as they prepare to take on Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State respectively. Northwestern will look to rebound from two losses last week, one against Southwestern and the other against Southeastern.

Northwestern enters the week with an 11-13 record on the season and a 7-11 Great American Conference record. The conference record has the Lady Rangers sitting in ninth place in the GAC trailing Southern Arkansas for the eighth and final playoff spot who has a 10-8 record.  

The Red-and-Black are led by head coach Tasha Diesselhorst who is currently in her fourth season with the University. She led Northwestern to their first conference tournament appearance since joining the GAC last year. She currently holds a 45-67 record with Northwestern. 

Kalea King has a slight edge over Bailey Brown in leading Northwestern in scoring. King sits at 14.3 while Brown averages 14.2 points per game. King has scored double figures in 10 of the last 11 games for the Lady Rangers. Brown leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 a game followed by King at 5.3 and Hurst 5.2. Kyleigh Leverich leads Northwestern in assists at 3. 4. Hillary Hurst has elevated her game during these last three games as she is averaging 16.3 points per game along with 7 rebounds in that stretch.

Ouachita Baptist (4-20, 1-17):

The Tigers will host the Lady Rangers Thursday evening with a 4-20 overall record and 1-17 in conference placing them in last place in the Great American Conference. They come into the game on a 12 game losing streak with their most recent loss a two-point loss to Southern Arkansas.   

Ouachita is led by head coach Robert Dallimore who is in his first season with Ouachita Baptist. Dallimore was an associate head coach at Little Rock before accepting the position with the Tigers.

The Red-and-Black trail the history between the two teams with the Tigers leading 8-7. The Lady Rangers have taken the last two meetings between the two schools each by at least 10 points. The Red-and-Black will be looking for their first victory at Ouachita since December of 2014.

The first meeting between the two teams featured a Northwestern victory 78-68 in Percefull Fieldhouse. King led Northwestern with 19 points being one of four players in double figures. Kenzi Lamer(15) Jakeria Otey (12) and Brown (11) were the other players. Maija Gertsone led the Tigers with 19 points as she was one of the five double-figures scorers.  

Gertsone leads Ouachita with 13.3 points per game as one of three players in double figures. Eden Crow (12.8) and Madison Raney (10.0) are their other two top scorers. Crow currently getting 7.5 rebounds per game, followed by Raney at 7.0 and Clay at 5.8. Makayla Miller leads their team in assists at 3.7 per game. 

Ouachita has not won a conference game since January 4th against Oklahoma Baptist where they picked up the win in Arkadelphia. The Tigers are 4-7 in Arkadelphia this season so far going into the Thursday evening game.

At Henderson State (17-7, 12-6) 

 The Lady Rangers will have their final road game Saturday afternoon when they travel to Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Henderson State enters the week with a solid 17-7 record with a 12-6 conference record.

Henderson State is led by head coach Jill Thomas, who is in her sixth season with the program. She holds an 84-86 record with the Reddies but is 149-145 all-time record as a head coach. 

The Reddies come into the game leading the all-time series history 9-6 over the Lady Rangers. Henderson has won three of the last four including the most recent matchup this season back in January, 73-64. Lady Rangers will look for their first win at Henderson since February of 2014. 

The first meeting Otey led the Lady Rangers with 23 points in the game. Hurst finished with 16 and was the only other Ranger to finish with double figures. The Reddies were led by Maci Mains finishing with 17 points, followed by Lani Snowden (15) and Karrington Whaley (12) to round out the double-digit scorers. 

Henderson has a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging double figures. They are led by Estes Hailey who scores 14.3 points a game. She is followed by Whaley 12.9, Mains 11.6, Jones 10.8 and Snowden 10.7 points per game with the Reddies. Estes comes in averaging 10.5 rebounds a game for the team giving her a double-double average. Whaley comes in averaging 8.5 rebounds a game. Pink Jones leads the team with 4.7 assists per game.

Henderson comes into the game winners of two straight games. They are 10-1 at home with the only loss coming from Arkansas Monticello.
