Russellville, Arkansas - The Rangers continued their two day stay in Arkansas, facing off against the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech. Northwestern extended their conference record to 6-3 with the sweep. Addison Wimmer led her team in kills with 11. Wimmer also had 11 digs, picking up a double double for the match. Ravyn Burns collected 3 solo blocks. Andrea Coady led in digs with 14 and Cameron Lobb led in assists with 27.
Set One:
The Golden Sun's took an early lead with back to back kills and an ace. Senior Rayvn Burns broke their run with a middle attack. Arkansas Tech quickly responded with another ace to lead Northwestern 6-2. Addison Wimmer fought back with an ace for the Rangers. Courtney Russell and Carmae Jones contributed a kill each to close the gap on the Sun's 7-8. The two teams exchanged point for point. A kill and solo block from Burns switched the momentum to Northwestern's side and allowed them to take the lead 12-9. Solid defensive blocking and aggressive serving from the Rangers allowed them to further their lead 18-10. Wimmer started to heat up in the front row contributing three kills in a row which aided Northwestern in dominating the first set 25-12.
Set Two:
Wimmer kept the momentum going with a first point tip kill for Northwestern. Cameron Lobb contributed an untouchable ace serve. Arkansas Tech responded with a kill to trail 4-2. Once again, the two teams settled into a point for point exchange. Back to back kills from the Suns allowed them to retake the lead 12-10. Jones quickly responded with an off-speed kill from the middle. A kill and service ace from the Sun's forced Northwestern into a timeout 17-14. Out of the timeout, Russell contributed a soloblock from the outside. Wimmer collected another soloblock for the Rangers to close the gap 19-18. Lobb fired off another ace serve to force Arkansas Tech into a timeout. Jones contributed a middle kill and Burns contributed another solo block to allow Northwestern to take the second 25-23.
Set Three:
The Rangers build off their momentum from the previous sets by taking an early four point lead against the Suns. Tarra Parks contributed back to back kills. Lobb also contributed a setter kill to advance Northwestern's lead 7-3 in the third. Kills from Burns and Russell furthered The Ranger lead and forced Arkansas Tech into a timeout 13-5. Out of the timeout, Northwestern continued their forward momentum with an ace from Parks and a kill from Wimmer. Arkansas Tech responded with a service ace. Jones contributed a deep middle kill to advance the Rangers to a 19-11 lead. Despite their comeback, a final kill and solo block from burns allowed Northwestern to take the third 25-19.
The Rangers return home for conference play on Thursday the 13th against Henderson State University. Northwestern will take the court versus the Reddies at 6:00 PM in Percefull Fieldhouse.
