HEBER SPRING, Ark. – The Northwestern Men's Golf team concluded the Natural State Golf Classic at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club on Tuesday hosted by Harding.
"I'm very proud of how the men performed this week at the Red Apple Inn in Heber springs. The guys were able to post very good rounds in the first and second rounds. I'm very pleased about their games and also excited we are striding right before conference. RRR!!!" Stated Head Coach David Rogers.
The Rangers carded a 307 as a team after the first round on Monday which left them in ninth place. Northwestern would improve their score in round two with a 297 to finish eighth in the tournament over Harding University (B), Arkansas-Monticello and Hendrix College. Finishing a team two round score of 604.
The Red-and-Black were led by Freshman Logan Johnson. Johnson would card an opening round score of 76 while dropping three birdies. Johnson would improve his score in day two as he would card a 73 with two birdies. The freshman finished tied for 30th in the tournament with an overall score of 149.
Luke Cooley, the Andrews, Texas native was able to keep his score even after the first three holes. Cooley turned in a 75 after the opening round, and a 75 after the second round. Cooley would finish his two rounds by carding a 150 along with four birdies along the way.
Cade Seymour came in next for the Red-and-Black tallying four birdies and having a two-round score of 77-76 - 153.
Zac Caldwell posted a 83-73 - 156, along with six birdies.
Rounding out the scoring for the Rangers was Keenan Hofstad. Hofstad carded a 79-83 - 162 while recording one birdie.
Henderson State was able to take the team victory after shooting 16 under over the two rounds for a team total of 552.
Trevor Mellott, of Harding University was able to take home the individual victory after shooting eight under (134) over the two rounds.
The Rangers will be back in action on April 10-12th at the Hot Springs Country Clubs in Hot Spring, Arkansas for the Great American Conference Tournament.
