Rangers Fall in Saturday Game to the Bison

SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA - The Rangers traveled to Oklahoma Baptist Saturday afternoon for a conference match against the Bison. Oklahoma Baptist used a hot start to gain momentum taking the first set and eventually leading to a sweep over the Rangers.

The loss drops Northwestern to 10-6 on the season with a 3-2 conference record overall. Oklahoma Baptist improve to 10-8 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. Addison Wimmer led the Rangers with 12 kills, Ravyn Burns with four blocks, Cameron Lobb with 27 assists and Tarra Parks with 11 digs.

SET ONE:
Oklahoma Baptist came out firing in the opening set with three straight kills which followed a service ace to start the match. Wimmer put the Rangers on the board with a kill helping eventually cut the deficit to 5-3 but the Bison responded. Oklahoma Baptist followed with their second 4-0 run before opening a 13-5 lead over the Rangers. The Bison kept matching each comeback attempt form the Rangers before closing out a 25-18 set victory to go up 1-0 in the match.

SET TWO:
Rangers opened the scoring in the second set after Lobb served leading to a Bison attack error. The teams traded points before a tied scored at 4-4. Bison rattled off four straight points taking an 8-4 lead over the Rangers. Oklahoma Baptist went on an 8-1 run opening their largest lead at 19-9 to that point in the match. The Bison continued to find success before closing set two with a 25-14 victory over the Rangers.

SET THREE:
Oklahoma Baptist opened the third set fast with the first two points and the first six of seven points on four straight kills and two service aces. The Bison led 6-1 before the Rangers answered back with four straight points started by a Parks kill followed by kills from Wimmer, and Carmae Jones. With the Rangers trailing 7-6 Oklahoma Baptist went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-6 lead. Northwestern closed the gap by a 3-0 run. Rangers continued to battle back tying the match at 15-15. However the Bison answered back with a 6-1 run to take a 21-16 lead. With the Bison in front 23-18 Wimmer started a Northwestern rally as the Rangers scored five straight to tie the match at 23-23. The Bison closed the match though with two straight points to win the set 25-23 and win the match 3-0 overall.

The Rangers will be back in action Tuesday evening as the team travels to Cameron University for a non-conference match. Northwestern will return to conference play Thursday and Friday in Percefull Fieldhouse.
