Box Score 2 DENTON, TEXAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State concluded their two day tournament in Denton, Texas with two matches. The Rangers dropped their opening match against Texas Woman's University 3-0 before responding with a 3-1 match win over Fort Hays State to conclude the tournament.
Match 1:
The Rangers were led in kills by Addison Wimmer with nine, followed by Tara Parks with six. Cameron Lobb led with 20 of the team's 22 assists, with Wimmer leading the team with 10 digs.
Set : 1
Northwestern jumped out with the first two points of the match started by a kill from Ravyn Burns before Texas Woman's rattled off the next four to take a 4-2 lead. The home team maintained this lead through the opening set following a 6-0 run to open a 9-4 lead over the Rangers. Texas Woman's opened their largest lead at 23-11 before closing out the 12 point win over the Rangers 25-13.
Set 2:
Texas Woman's jumped out with the first two points in set two but a kill by Tarra Parks opened the scoring for the Rangers. The team were tied at 4-4 before the Texas Woman's opened a three point lead at 9-6 following a service error. A 9-0 run put Texas Woman's in front with a 21-11 lead. They went on to win with that 10 point lead at 25-15 and take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3:
The third set weas the closest in this match as neither team could open a lead to start trading opening points before Texas Woman's took a 9-6 lead. The lead grew to as large as eight at 20-12 before the Rangers answered with five straight cutting the deficit to four. Northwestern followed the run with a 5-0 run to even the score at 23-23 but out of the timeout Texas Woman's was able to close the match with the final two points for a 25-23 victory and a 3-0 match win.
Match 2:
Addison Wimmer finished the match with 15 kills (team high) and 11 digs. Andrea Coady and Tarra Parks joined Wimmer in double digit digs with 25 and 15 respectively. Cameron Lobb led the team with 31 assists.
Set 1:
Fort Hays jumped out in set one fast with the first two points of the set before taking an 11-7 leav over the Rangers. Following a timeout Northwestern went for five straight points to take a 12-11 lead. The teams traded points to a 16-16 tie before Northwestern went for four straight to take a 21-17 lead late in the first set following a black by Carmae Jones and a kill by Courtney Russell. A kill by Russell and later a service error by FHS closed out the opening set win for the Rangers at 25-21.
Set 2:
A Wimmer kill opened the scoring in set two for the Rangers as the team jumped out to an early 6-2 lead following a kill by Andrea Coady to complete the 4-0 run. Fort Hays later tied the set at 10-10 but Northwestern quickly responded with a 5-0 run for a 15-10 lead. Following a block by Carmae Jones and a service ace from Wimmer, blocked by Russell and Jones, Northwestern opened their largest lead of the set at 23-12. The Rangers closed out a 25-15 set win to take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3:
The two teams jumped out even in the third set following a 4-4 tie through the first eight points of set three. Fort Hays then took a 13-8 lead over the Rangers. FHS then went on a 5-1 run to make it an 18-13 lead. A kill by Parks brought the deficit back within four at 19-15 but ultimately Fort Hays was able to close the third set with a 25-17 victory forcing a fourth set.
Set 4:
With Forth Hays looking to continue to extend the match they were able to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead before a kill by Russell ended their run. FHS was able to maintain their three point lead though to 7-4 before the Rangers went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set. This was sparked by a solo block from Jones before a bad set made it 8-7 Rangers. A kill by Parks gave the Rangers a 13-10 lead and forced a timeout by FHS. Out of the timeout Fort Hays rattled off four consecutive points as the set was locked at 15-15 following a Ranger point. It was then tied at 19-19 before the Rangers went for four straight opening a 23-19 lead. A kill by Parks sealed the win at 25-20.
The Rangers conclude the Texas Woman's tournament 2-2 and are now 5-3 on the season. The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday September 6th at Bethel.
