ALVA, OKLAHOMA- Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Basketball hits the road for a trip to Arkansas for two games this week. The first a Thursday night game against Arkansas Monticello before going to Magnolia to play Southern Arkansas. This will complete the regular season series against both teams.
Thursday evening will be a 5:30 PM tip-off in Monticello, Arkansas as the Lady Rangers enter play with a 8-9 overall record with a 4-9 conference mark. The Blossoms come in with a 7-12 record this season and a 4-9 conference mark identical to the Lady Rangers.
This will be meeting number two this season and number 20 overall in the series. Northwestern leads 11-8 overall in the series history winning four straight games including the first meeting this season in Alva. Northwestern held on for a 59-52 victory following a 26 point performance from Camille Thomas. Northwestern has won three of the last four games in Monticello and have won seven of the last 10 meetings.
Northwestern is coming off a three game week after going 1-2 with a win over Harding 69-66. The last time out the Lady Rangers dropped a 63-56 game to Arkansas Tech. Northwestern was led in scoring by Camille Thomas and Faith Simpson with 14 points each in the loss from two of three double figure scorers.
In the season Northwestern has been led by Faith Simpson at 16.7 points per game, a team high as one of three players averaging double figures. She is joined by Carly Craig and Camille Thomas has been averaging 12.4 points per game with Craig at 11.0. Craig leads the team in assists this season with 86 on the year with Talayah Thomas second with 37. Talayah Thomas has scored double figures in six straight games for the Lady Rangers bringing her average to over eight points a game.
Defensively for Northwestern is led by Faith Simpson with 40 steals on the season along with 21 blocks on the year both being team highs for the year. Craig and Talayah Thomas each have over 30 steals as Craig with 38 and Thomas with 34. Camille Thomas is second in blocks with seven. The team is led in rebounding by Faith Simpson and Camille Thomas averaging 7.3 and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Arkansas Monticello:Â
The Blossoms enter play Thursday looking to snap a four game losing streak as Arkansas Monticello is coming off a nine point loss to Oklahoma Baptist. Overall this season Monticello is 7-2 in Steelman Fieldhouse this season.
Arkansas Monticello is led in scoring by Bailey Harris at 15.2 points per game as one of two double figure scorers along with Joi Montgomery at 10.9 points per game. Laia Balcells leads the team in assists with 40 this season.
On defense Balcells leads the team with 35 steals this season followed by Montgmery with 22 on the year. Kensmil leads the team in blocks on the year with 15 on the season. Montgomery averaged 6.6 rebounds per game followed by Kensmil at 4.9 on the season.
