ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Head Men's Track & Field coach Derrick Young Jr. has announced he is stepping down with the Rangers.
"Derrick has done a great job building our men's track and Field program from scratch into a GAC contender in a few short years. I appreciate the dedication he has put into the program and working with our student-athletes. He has worked hard to build this program and had Sterlin Broomfield work closely with him building the program. I truly thank Derrick for all his hard work on behalf of Northwestern athletics," stated Brad Franz, Director of Athletics.
Young has been with Northwestern since February of 2022, after being hired as the Assistant Women's Track & Field coach. He was later promoted to the Head Men's Track & Field coach, helping rebuild the Men's Track and Field team after a 27-year hiatus. The program restarted in 2024.
This past season, Young helped lead the Rangers to a strong finish, having three GAC runner-up finishes and a GAC Champion. He had 24 athletes reach All-Conference accolades. Finished with 10 first-team All-Conference athletes, nine second-team ALL-GAC, and five honorable mention.
