Second Half Bison Charge Leads to Ranger Defeat

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State started out the game hot, leading Oklahoma Baptist 24-7 at halftime, but it was certainly a tale of two halves as the Bison came back and took down the Rangers in a 41-38 contest.

Individual Leaders
  • Reid Miller threw for the most passing yards this season with 500 on 39-60 passing while putting four passes in the endzone. He also threw for five interceptions in the game.
  • Zachry Doyle led the rushing attack with 39 yards on eight attempts.
  • Jordan Norris once again added to his interceptions on the year with one against the Bison. His yearly total is now at seven. Before this week, Norris was tied for second in the country with six picks.
  • Arte' Miura Jr. led the Rangers in yards receiving as he caught seven passes for 95 yards and a score, while Justin Schanbacher caught eight for 77. Alva native Riley Hess hauled in three catches, two being for touchdowns.
  • Joby Saint Fleur was a beast up front for the Rangers as he forced two fumbles, while also recording a sack on the afternoon.
  • Devin Peyton was the tackles leader on the day with 14 to bring his total to 79 on the season. 
Game Changers
  • The Rangers got off to a hot start in this match-up as the home team put up a total of 24 straight unanswered points, but the Bison collected a pick six right before the end of the half to make it 24-7. The interception turned out to be a huge momentum swing.
  • OBU came out of the half a different team and rattled off 20 straight points of their own to take a 27-24 lead, their first of the game.
  • The game went back-and-forth from then on, but another pick six by the Bison was the dagger, putting the visitors at 41 and ultimately sealing the victory.
News & Notes
  • Jordan Norris added to his unreal amount of interceptions on the season with one this week, bringing his season tally to seven.
  • First time the Rangers and Bison have met since 1940.
  • The Rangers fall to 0-5 all time against the OBU Bison.

Northwestern football will take their next game on the road to Bethany, Okla. where they will take on the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene at 4 p.m. on Oct. 24.
