The Rangers would close out the half with the score all tied up at 35-35 after a huge Motley's three-pointer to swing the momentum back towards the home team. Harding would go on an 11-4 run of their own midway through the second half, as the Bisons would hold a 50-43 lead over Northwestern with 11:40 left in the game. Dempsey, with just under a minute to go, would drive to through the lane and put up the tough lay up to tie the ball game up at 64-64. Motley would be fouled hard going up for a turnaround jumper and would be sent to the free throw line for two free throws which he would knock down both to give the Rangers the one point edge at 66-65 with just 22 seconds left in the game.
