Leading Off - Game One
Score: Arkansas Tech 7 – Northwestern 4
Records: Arkansas Tech (18-27, 10-19 GAC) – Northwestern (14-31, 11-18 GAC)
Location: Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium - Alva, Okla.
ALVA, Okla - Northwestern Oklahoma State took a hit in game one of the day, falling to Arkansas Tech in the first game of the twin bill, 7-4.
At The Plate
The K Zone
- Pat Delano started on the hill for the home team and went six innings, striking out three Wonder Boys, while allowing seven runs, five of which were earned.
- Coming on in the seventh to relieve Delano was Dakota Stanek who threw the final three innings. Stanek was good in his outing as he managed three strikeouts, while only allowing one hit.
Game Changer
- Neither team was able to put anything together through the first two innings, but the Black-and-Red were able to put one on the board in the bottom of the third when Jacob Long was able to bring in Garrett Douglas on an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
- The very next half inning, Tech brought in two runs of their own on a two-run homer to right field to make it a 2-1 game in ATU's favor.
- The top of the sixth was a big one for the guests as they hit a three-run bomb and brought in two more runs on a single two left field, extending the lead to 7-1.
- Following the big inning by ATU, the Rangers plated a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning and another two in the seventh to make it a three-run game.
- That would be the final runs scored for the Rangers however as ATU would go on to win 7-4.
Leading Off - Game Two
Score: Arkansas Tech 5 – Northwestern 4
Records: Arkansas Tech (19-27, 11-19 GAC), Northwestern (14-32, 11-19 GAC)
Location: Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium - Alva, Okla.
ALVA, Okla - Northwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas Tech battled it out in game two, going 11 innings before the Wonder Boys prevailed in the 5-4 contest.
At The Plate
- Martinez had another big game at the plate, going 3-for-5 while the other multi-hit Ranger in game two was Long who was 2-for-5.
- Douglas, Bess and Dickerman were the other three batters to collect hits in the game.
The K Zone
- Matt Bickford was the game-two starter for the home team, pitching three and one-thirds innings before Zach Postoak came on for 1.1 innings of work.
- Brad Drury threw for an out, before Jason Freeman came on to close out the fifth inning, after which he pitched a full frame.
- Kyle Renbarger came on for two and two-thirds innings before Stanek was brought in for his second appearance of the day and came away with the unfortunate loss.
- Senior Brody Ausfahl came on for the final out for the home team.
Game Changer
- Northwestern was able to strike first in the game as a bases loaded single by martinez scored Douglas from third, but that would be all the home team could bring around in the frame, going up 1-0.
- Once again, in the third inning, the visitors hit another homer to make it a 3-1 game.
- The Rangers would answer with back-to-back homers however in the next at bat. The two bombs were by Bess and Martinez to make it 3-3.
- In the very next inning, with his first home run of his Ranger career, Dickerman drilled a ball over the scoreboard to give the Black-and-Red the advantage.
- ATU tied it up in the fifth inning, and the score would remain that way until the top of the 11th inning when they would score on an error to go up a run. That would be the final run of the game, with the win going to the Wonder Boys.
On Deck
Northwestern will host Newman, Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. before traveling to Southwestern for a big series with the arch rival Bulldogs.
