Baseball Surrenders Two Losses in Weatherford

Leading Off - Game One
Score: Northwestern 1 - Southwestern 3

Location: Weatherford, Okla. - SWOSU Athletic Complex 

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State squared off in game one in a pitcher's duel where a total of just four runs were scored, with the home team coming up with the series opening win, 3-1.

At The Plate

The K Zone
  • Starting game one of the series was senior Brody Ausfahl who earned a quality start in the outing and throwing the entire game for the Rangers. In the start, Ausfahl struck out four batters, while surrendering three runs on six hits.
 
Game Changer
  • Southwestern scored a run in the third inning, the first of the game for either team on an RBI single after which they put two more on the board in the fourth to make it a 3-0 game where it would remain until the eighth inning.
  • The lone run for the Rangers came in the top of the eighth inning where Montano crossed the plate on a SAC fly by Casey Dickerman.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball was taken down in game number two of the afternoon by the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State by a final score of 7-4 on the road. 

At The Plate
  • Leading the Northwestern offensive attack in the second contest was Jacob Long who finished the game going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, one run scored, and one double. 
  • Cooper Stanley contributed another RBI to the Ranger effort as he went 1-for-4 during the afternoon.
  • Casey Dickerman, Thomas Bess, and Tito Montano Jr. each provided one hit a piece in the match-up as well. 
     
The K Zone
  • Robert Lawhon started on the mound for the black-and-red as he threw 6.0 total innings only allowing two earned runs, two walks and was able to strike out eight total batters. 
     

Game Changer
  • The defensive game in this match-up certainly was a difference maker as the Rangers committeed four total errors in the ballgame compared to Southwestern's zero, and of the seven runs scored by the Bulldogs only two were earned runs counted against Lawhon. 
  • Northwestern struck first in this contest as a Long single to center gave the visitors the 1-0 lead. Southwestern however countered in the bottom half of the first inning after scoring two runs on one Ranger error. 
  • SWOSU extended their lead by the fourth inning to 5-1 over the black-and-red but Northwestern battled back in the top of the fifth inning after Long and Stanley provided big hits to cut the Bulldog lead to only one run at 5-4.
  • Southwestern finished off this match-up however by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the game 7-4.

Northwestern and Southwestern will finish up their series tomorrow afternoon beginnning at 1 p.m.
