Barnes, McDonald, Malloy set new records for Lady Rangers

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University women's track and field team finished day two of the DeLoss Dodds Invitational. Just as day one went, day two caused the record books to shuffle.

Setting a new record for the Lady Rangers was Jaya Barnes in the 600-yards race, with a time of 1:35.47, Selena McDonald jumped her way to the top of the record book in the High Jump, clearing 1.51 meters. Mariah Malloy also set the mark for the one mile run; in the first such race that Northwestern has competed in, with a time of 6:02.00.

Each of the 10 events Northwestern competed in on Saturday inside of the Ahearn Field House, resulted in an athlete joining the top five rankings in the record books.

"The results show how great this weekend was for us," stated Head Coach Jill Lancaster. "We set four new school records this weekend alone and completely redid the entire record book. This was a wonderful start to the season for us and it is a great first step to where we want to go."

The Lady Rangers had six runners in the 60-meters race and they were led by Jasmine Bowen finishing with a time of 8.54 seconds, giving her the fourth best time, while Raven Pridgen-Spearman moved to fifth clocking a time of 8.65. Kianna Dickey had a time of 8.70, while Gina Wilson turned in a finish of 8.72, Natasha Stocks finished at the 9.03 mark and Elizabeth McMahan crossed at 9.17.

Wilson led the Red-and-Black in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.41 seconds, 0.21 seconds off of her school record. McMahan's result of 10.88 seconds moved her to third all-time and Zarin Goodrich now holds the fourth best time of 11.01 seconds. Hayden Duvall finished at the 11.64 mark, Destiny Gardner crossed with 11.72 and Jessalyn Rivet-Tissot had a time of 12.38.

Joining Barnes to round out the top four for the 600-yards event is Abrianna Orona, who had a time of one minute and 39.04 seconds, Angel Marshall at 1:46.44 and with a time of 1:47.25 is Abigail Cole.

In the 200-meter race Bowen took claim to the second best time, finishing in 28.55 seconds, Wilson climbed to fourth with a time of 28.73. The Lady Rangers competed in the one mile run for the first time in school history Saturday. Led by Malloy's 6:02.00, Jasmin Garcia followed at 6:03.20 and Madison Meyer finished with a time of six minute and 29.50 seconds. Yvonne Landeros finished with the fourth best time for Northwestern at 6:30.57, while Zoe Moorman finished at the 6:31.72 mark, Melissa Perez clocked 6:40.39 and Jean Dodds had a time of 7:29.95.

Camille Lear moved to second all-time in the 3000-meter race finishing with a time of 11:55.65 and Kayla Gourley finished right behind her at 11:57.00.

In the 4x400 relay the Red-and-Black had two teams compete. Wasson, Malloy, Garcia and Briley Yunker moved into fourth place in the record books with a time of four minutes and 32.88 seconds, while Cole, Orona, Rivet-Tissot and Moorman hold down the fifth spot turning in a time of 4:40.07.

In the High Jump along with McDonald's school record of 1.51 meters, Gardner moved to third reaching 1.41 meters.

Northwestern had two record a distance in the Triple Jump; Pridgen-Spearman gained 9.90 meters the third best record leap and Duvall is right behind her after jumping 9.80 meters.

Rosaria Milton led the Lady Rangers in the Shot Put recording a total distance of 10.50 meters, Jenny Martinez launched it 10.08 meters, while Destiny Chew gauged 9.81 meters and Eryn Setzer threw for 9.02 meters. Chew is the only one to make a move in the record book moving up to fourth place all-time.

"The event this weekend really shows us where we are at with our training," Lancaster stated. "When looking at the results we do not match Kansas State, a top Division I program, but we are close to fellow Division II Central Oklahoma and we will see them again in competition again later in the season. The opportunity of getting to come to Manhattan and compete allows us to get the season started a week earlier this year."

Northwestern will travel back to Kansas this next week on January 30-31 to compete in the Wichita State Invitational in the Heskett Center, starting at noon on Thursday.
