Rangers Return to action Thursday against the Crimson Storm

ALVA, Okla.- The Rangers return to action Thursday evening following their Thursday loss to Southeastern in the closing, four minutes of the game. Northwestern ready to get back on the court after having two games canceled this past week on Saturday and Monday from inclement weather. Northwestern has dropped the first two meetings against the Crimson Storm, with the latest a defensive battle 57-50. 

Thursday's matchup will feature two of the better defenses in the conference like we witnessed the last time the Rangers faced the Crimson Storm. SNU is the best in the conference, with only allowing 64.3 points per game, and are in the top half in FG percentage defense as opponents shoot 43.1 percent against them. The Rangers are in the top half of the conference in points allowed per game allowing 71.8 per game for sixth in the Great American Conference. NWOSU is fourth in the conference in FG percentage at 41.9 percent, along with the best team against the three, as opponents shoot a low 31 percent from deep. The Ranges are 11th in scoring at 67.7 per game while the Crimson Storm are 12th in scoring with 65.5.

Head Coach, for the Rangers Vinay Patel continues his second season as the head coach of the Ranger program. He holds a 12-25 record at NWOSU and a 100-81 record at the collegiate level. 

The Rangers are 2-7 on the season, 0-7 in conference play looking to snap their seven-game losing streak and their six-game losing streak against SNU Thursday. 

The Red-and-Black have three double-figure scorers, with one on the brink of entering as the fourth. Parrish Hewitt continues to lead the Rangers with 14.7 per game for 12th in the league while shooting 40% from the field. Deon Barrett is the team leader in assists with 40 on the season at 5.7 a game. His 5.7 assists are third in the conference and 15th in Division II while also averaging 11.7 points per game. Barrett leads the team with 10 steals on the season.  Jack Peck has been a key contributor via the starting role or off the bench averaging 10.4 points per game. Bubba Furlong is averaging 9.8 points per game on the season but has been a leader on the defensive side of the ball all year. Furlong is bringing down 10.3 rebounds per game, first in the conference and 13th in Division II. His 25 blocks on the season are first in the Great American Conference and fifth in DII basketball, while his 2.78 per game is third in the nation and first in the conference.

Southern Nazarene:

The Crimson Storm had their Saturday game canceled against Southeastern. Their last game came a week ago against Southwestern in a 79-78 victory in overtime, where Adokiye Iyaye finished with 29 points. Southern Nazarene is 3-2 in their last five games.

Adam Bohac is currently in his 13th season with the Crimson Storm. He has a 260-129 record with the program overall. In conference play, his record is 182-88 with the program. 

Iyaye leads the Crimson Storm in scoring as he is one of three players averaging double figures on the team. His 19.1 per game on the season is the best on the Crimson Storm and first in the GAC. Manny Dixon is second with an average of 14.7 points, tied for 12th in the league with Hewitt. Karlyn Kenner is the third storm player in double figures averaging 10.7 per game. Maik Bouwer is the team's leading rebounder at eight boards per game, which is the sixth-best in the league. Dixon is second at 5.8. Mo Wilson averages 3.7 assists per game for the team lead and sixth-best in conference. 

History:  

Northwestern will look for their first win over the Crimson Storm this season after losing the previous two 67-46 in the first matchup and the most recent game 57-50. In their last meeting, Iyaye led the Crimson Storm with 19 points on the evening, while the Rangers were led by Furlong with 15 points, followed by Hewitt at 13 points on the game. 

The Red-and-Black are 0-5 in the last five meetings against the Crimson Storm and 3-7 in their last 10 meetings.  Northwestern's last win over the Storm came in February of 2018 in a 53-52 home win. Southern Nazarene leads 18-35 in the overall series history between these two schools.
