The Lady Rangers Fall in Final Minute

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Lady Rangers were defeated in the final minute by the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene 62-54, Thursday evening in Oklahoma City. 
 
Scout Frame finished with 24 points, four steals, two assists and five rebounds. She finished shooting 9-for-17 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. 
 
Mya Johnson scored 11 points, stole the ball twice and grabbed four rebounds. Johnson shot 33.3% from the field shooting 3-for-9. She finished 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. 
 
Lizzie Shephard posted eight points, three rebounds, two steals and three assists. 
 
Bailey Brown grabbed six rebounds, assisted her team seven times, stole the ball twice and scored eight points. Brown finished 3-for-6 from field goal range and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line. 
 
Northwestern moves to 5-10 overall and 3-10 in the Great American Conference.

FIRST QUARTER
Whitfield fired first from underneath to score the first basket of the game and Payton Jones of SNU answered back with a deep three. S. Frame rolled in a layup that was assisted by Brown and SNU drilled another three pointer. Brown scored inside but Cassandra Awatt rattled in a deep score to put the Crimson Storm up by four. At the three-minute mark, Johnson scored her first points of the game after she put in two free throws. Shephard scored the final basket of the quarter for the Red-and-Black but SNU was able to stay on top of Northwestern 17-10. (17-10, SNU)
 
SECOND QUARTER
Alexus Jones scored the first five points of the quarter for the Crimson Storm. Johnson, S. Frame and Brown were able to cut into SNU's 14-point lead, but the Crimson Storm were able to stay ahead of the Lady Rangers by seven after the first half. (30-23, SNU)
 
THIRD QUARTER
Kennedy Gillette hit a jumper to open the second half. S. Frame scored her 11th point of the game at the seven-minute mark, followed by scores from Brown, Shephard and Johnson. S. Frame drilled a deep score with two minutes left in the quarter. P. Jones put in a pair of free throws and Gillette rattled in a jumper to keep SNU ahead by six with under a minute left to play until Shephard drained an outside score with 16 seconds left to cut Southern Nazarene's lead to just three. The Crimson Storm stay in front of NWOSU at the end of the third quarter 42-39. (42-39, SNU)
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Johnson was assisted by Josena Frame from under the basket to cut the game to SNU leading by only one point. Gillette fired in a three pointer at the seven-minute mark and S. Frame scored her 17th point after she rattled in a layup and free throw. Johnson, Brown and J. Frame hit free throws with five minutes left to play, SNU leads 50-47. P. Jones scored off a jumper to go up four over the Lady Rangers, but S. Frame drilled a three pointer to keep it a two-point game. Both teams traded trips to the free-throw lines, but Southern Nazarene was able to stay ahead after the final minute 62-54. (62-54, SNU)

P. Jones led SNU with 17 points, one block, two steals, two assists and two rebounds. She finished shooting 9-for-10 from the free-throw line and 2-for-9 from deep. 
 
Gillette scored 14 points and snagged eight rebounds. She tallied four assists along with two steals. 
 
A. Jones finished with four assists, nine points and six rebounds. She also stole the ball from Northwestern once. 
 
Abby Niehues posted six blocks, six rebounds and three points.
 
NEXT UP: On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Lady Rangers will travel to Shawnee to take on the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist at 2 p.m.
