Rangers Play Host to Southern Nazarene Saturday

ALVA, Okla.- The Rangers will return to action Saturday afternoon to play host to the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene for the sixth Great American Conference game on the season. Rangers will be coming off of their Thursday night loss to the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist. Southern Nazarene will be coming off their Thursday evening loss to East Central. 

Southern Nazarene is giving up the least amount of points per game in the GAC at only 64.8 points allowed. Northwestern is the number one defense against the three in the conference play as opponents shoot only 29% from behind the arc against the Rangers. NWOSU continues to lead the Great American Conference in rebounds per game at 43.3 a night. 

Vinay Patel is currently in his second season with the Rangers as the head coach. He has a 12-23 record with the program and a 100-79 record as a collegiate head coach. 

The Red-and-Black are 2-5 on the season, 0-5 in conference play heading into Saturday afternoon's matchup, looking to snap their five-game losing streak. 

Jack Peck, coming off his Ranger career-high of 30 points in the Thursday game against Oklahoma Baptist. He will look to carry that game into the weekend. Peck now averages 12.4 points per game on the season as he is one of three Rangers who average double-digit points per game. Parrish Hewitt leads the team with an average of 14.1 points per contest, which is 15th in the GAC. Deon Barrett is the third Ranger with 11.7 points while averaging the most assists per game for the team at 5.7, for third in the GAC. Bubba Furlong comes in averaging 10.7 rebounds per game for the league lead. He averages 9.3 points on 50% shooting from the field. Furlong has been a force to reckon with on the defensive end. He comes into Saturday with an average of 2.7 blocks per game. The blocks are third in all of Division II, along with 19 on the season for ninth in DII, both lead the Great American Conference. 

Southern Nazarene: 

The Crimson Storm enter Saturday afternoon's game with a 5-5 record overall and in Great American Conference play. Southern Nazarene is coming off a 64-51 loss and has lost three of their last four games, with the lone win coming against Southwestern. 

Adam Bohac is in the midst of his 13th season with the Crimson Storm. Bohac is 258-128 with the Southern Nazarene program. 

Adokiye Iyaye is the first of three Southern Nazarene player averaging double figures. He is their leading scorer with 17.5 points per game for the fourth-best in the conference. Manny Dixon is second with 15.5 points a game, followed by Karlyn Kenner at 10.3 points a contest. Maik Bouwer is the team's leading rebounder with 8.7 a game for fourth in the GAC. Mo Wilson II leads the Crimson Storm in assists with 38 for 3.8 a game. Wilson also leads the team in steals per game with 1.9 tied for 2nd in the conference. 

History: 

The Rangers look to snap a five-game losing streak against Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, as their last win came on February 17th in 2018 in a one-point victory in Percefull Fieldhouse. 

Saturday will be the second meeting this season between the two teams as the Crimson Storm took the first game 67-46. Dixon was the games leading scorer finishing with 19 points for the Crimson Storm as one of four SNU players in double figures. Barrett finished the game with 12 points on the night, was the Rangers leading scorer. 

Southern Nazarene leads the series history between the two teams with a record of 18-34. The series is an even 12-12 in Percefull Fieldhouse. The Crimson Storm also leads 7-4 since both teams have joined the Great American Conference.
