Rangers Place 10th in Emporia Invitational

EMPORIA, Kan. – Northwestern Oklahoma State track and field starts the second outdoor track season in school history. The Rangers were led by the 4x100 meter relay team and Ladasheray Bell in the 400-meter dash. At the same time, Deja Lacy and Kelsey Swindle set new school records in their events on Friday afternoon at the Emporia Invitational inside Francis G. Welch Stadium.

"Our team was very excited to get to put a uniform on, many for the first time in their career," Head Coach Jill Lancaster. "The Ladies' competitive effort was great! We will use this information to move forward in preparation for the meets that lie ahead prior to the conference championships. Our field events set the tone with a school-record and many personal best. It was a long-awaited opportunity to compete, and we look forward to moving forward in the weeks ahead."

The 4x100 relay team consisting of Babette Bright, Lacy, Shakira Lane and Cayla Smither turned in a fifth-place finish, while Bell placed sixth in the 400m dash.

The 4x100m relay team finished with a time of 50.58, which finished behind Washburn 'A', Emporia State 'A' and 'B' and Central Oklahoma.

NWOSU had two squads run in the 4x400-meter relay; team 'A' consisting of Alexa Leyva, Emily Smith, Smither and Briley Yunker, placed eighth with four minutes 28.95 seconds. With a 10th place finish, team 'B' of Emilie Brown, Lane, Mallory Paruszewski and Alyssa Wilson had a time of 4:54.29.

The Rangers had four compete in the 100-meter dash; they were led by Bright, who placed 16th with a time of 13.09, Lacy had a time of 13.18, Lane clocked a time of 13.35 and Wilson had a time of 14.69.

In the 200-meter race, with a time of 26.38 seconds, setting a new school record was Lacy. Bright was the next member of the Red-and-Black to finish at the 27.63 mark, Bell clocked a finish of 28.09, while Harlie Whisenant had a time of 29.49 and Elizabeth McMahan turned in a time of 29.74.

Bell's sixth-place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:03.50. Smith turned in a 10th place finish, ending with a time of 1:05.22, while Angel Marshall had a time of 1:13.95 in 17th place.

In the 800-meters run, Yunker placed 19th with a time of two minutes and 34.78 seconds; Mariah Malloy finishes with a time of 2:42.34.

Malloy paced NWOSU in the 1500-meter race; she turned in a time of five minutes and 33.96 seconds for 21st place. Jerika Coon and Savannah Francis also competed in the race, Coon had a time of 6:05.43, while Francis finished at the 6:50.56 mark.

Whisenant led Northwestern in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 17.61 and McMahan had a time of 18.07.

During the 400-meter hurdles, Paruszewski finished with a time of 1:23.13 and Brown had a time of 1:28.27.

In the triple jump, Natasha Stocks placed seventh, while Kaitlyn McClary finished in eighth. Stocks jumped 9.10m and McClary leaped 8.09m.

The Rangers were paced in the long jump by Aaliyah Stovall; she jumped 5.22m, the second-longest jump in school history. Leyva was next at 5.00m, Wilson gained 4.80m. Smither jumped 4.46m and Stocks reached 4.09m.

Northwestern had Eryn Setzer compete in the discus throw, tossing for 29.63m.

In the hammer throw, Swindle threw for 35.96m to break the school record.

Setzer led the Red-and-Black in the javelin throw, gaining 29.57m. McMahan's total distance was 29.25m, and Swindle threw for 23.19m.

Shaylee Beck was the lone competitor in the shot put for NWOSU; she threw for a distance of 8.26m.

The Rangers will return to the track inside Welch Stadium next weekend for the Emporia State Relays. The action starts at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
