EMPORIA, Kan. – Northwestern Oklahoma State track and field had two records broken on day one of the Emporia Relays, Friday afternoon at Francis G. Welch Stadium.

Kelsey Swindle broke her previous record on the hammer throw and Deja Lacy also reset the 200-meter record.

"We have definitely improved this week," said Head Coach Jill Lancaster. "We were able to get our feet under us this week and we had confidence in what we are doing across-the-board."

Lacy broke the record she set last week in the 200-meters, with a time of 26.24 seconds. Alexa Leyva also turned in a sub-27 second finish with a time of 26.94, while Ladasheray Bell improved her personal best clocked a finish on 27.46.

Jerika Coon turned in a time of 23 minutes and 20.31 seconds in the 5000-meter race.

Gina Wilson jumped 1.37m in the high jump for the Rangers.

In the hammer throw, Kelsey Swindle threw for 37.99m to break her school record she set last week.

"(Kelsey) Swindle kicked us off again with another personal best and looks to have more improvements on the horizon as much of the team does," Lancaster stated. Our sprinters came through again. They had improvements in their mechanics, and there is more room to grow, which is very promising. Our distance crew is excited to change our focus to the track and get going obviously; we have had some adapting to the situation."

The Rangers will return to the track inside Welch Stadium Tomorrow for day two of the Emporia State Relays. The action will begin at 11:30 a.m.
