MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Northwestern competed in two individual events and Gina Wilson wrapped up the heptathlon, completing three events on Friday. The day was slowed down and shortened due to it raining all day in Magnolia.

Wilson finished up the heptathlon with a total point count of 3186, placing seventh and collecting two points for the Rangers. She jumped 4.44m in the long jump to add 413 points, placing seventh in the javelin added 334 points and 449 points in the high jump in the 800-meter race; she collected 434 points.

"Gina came back out on the second day," stated Head Coach Jill Lancaster. "She stayed in the hunt and moved up the latter it was not easy in tough conditions. She stuck to the plan and did a great job. She knew what she needed to do going into the last event knowing what to do and she accomplished her goal by beating some people in front of her."

Eryn Setzer, a junior from Hydro, Okla., competed in the Discus tossing for 27.08m.

Friday evening Shaylee Beck, Krissie May and Kelsey Swindle competed in the javelin.

Beck, a freshman from White Deer, Texas, would throw for 14.07m, while Swindle totaled 25.24m, placing third in her flight and barely missing the cut for finals. She would finish in 14th place.

May, a junior from Viola, Kan., would make the finals. She placed fifth in the event with a personal best throw of 35.04m, beating 15 other competitors and collecting four points.

Northwestern has six points through two days and sits in seventh place, a point behind East Central for sixth. The Rangers have a two-point lead over Arkansas Tech and Southwestern. Harding currently leads the team event, with Oklahoma Baptist in second. Southern Arkansas, Southeastern and Southern Nazarene round out the top-five and the rankings heading into the busiest day of the GAC Championships.

"We are so proud of Krissie," Lancaster said. "She is a dual-sport athlete in rodeo and track, and this was only her third meet of the season after having last year off due to the pandemic. She is starting to establish herself at a new level and has learned a lot in such a short time. We look forward to the future and are proud of her for scoring points."

Day three of the GAC Championships will start an hour earlier to accommodate after the weather-shortened day on Friday. The field events will begin at 9 am on Saturday, with the running events beginning at 1 pm.
