Northwestern Concludes Meet At West Texas A&M

CANYON, TEXAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Track and Field concluded their meet in Canyon on the campus of West Texas A&M. The Rangers continued to find success this season as four school records were set and achieved this weekend. 

"Our coaching staff is delighted with the progress being made in the past few meets. As many are starting to break into higher levels of competitive marks there are just as many ready to make that breakthrough." stated head coach Jill Lancaster

Northwestern was led by upperclassmen Kelsey Swindle setting a new school record in the hammer throw of 38.81m 127'4".

Veteran jumper for the Rangers continued her strong season by resetting her own school record she had previously beaten this season by setting the school record in long jump of 5.43m 17'9 ¾". This performance on Saturday now has her ranked third in the Great American Conference Rankings. 

"It is exciting seeing the ladies compete hard down the stretch We will continue to improve as a team and great things will happen when it matters at the GAC Championship #RRR" Derrick Young Jr. assistant coach for the Rangers. 

Levy then followed this effort with being part of the 4x100 that set a school record. She set the record alongside teammates Diamond Hilton, Brianna Brantley, and Debbie Olalere. The Final Relay of 48.02 places the Rangers in fourth in the conference rankings for this event. 

"We had many great performances for the wind conditions that we were facing throughout the meet." stated coach Sterlin Broomfield.

Freshman Takia Zachary broke the school record in the high jump in only her second outdoor meet of the season as she had a mark of 1.58 m 5'2 ¼". On top of the school record this placed her in the top 10 in the GAC as she now ranks 6th in the conference rankings. 

"Good things are happening and the patience required can be challenging to our athletes. We have been pressing hard and will take advantage of this week off from competition to freshen up and get ready for our last competitions leading to the championship meet. Our program has proven our athletes will be at our best at the Championships" coach Lancaster said. 

The success continued throughout the meet for the Rangers as the distance crew featured three personal bests for the Rangers. Liberty Goodnow in the 1500's finished with a time of 5:44.52. Josie Gibson had her best mark in the 5000 meter run of 22:14.06. Jerika Coon set her personal best in the 800 meter run with a mark of 3:02.99.

Northwestern's sprints produced marks of strong signs to come the rest of the season as Tavonyia Lacy Diamond Hilton placed in the top 20 of the meet with Shakira Lane in the top 25. Elizabeth McMahan finished inside the top 15 of the 100 meter hurdles.
