Ranger Set Three School Records in Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, KANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State concluded their two day meet Saturday afternoon hosted by Pittsburg State in Kansas. In the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic the Rangers set 11 personal best, while also accomplishing three new school records.

"Once again our competition was led by some of the best athletes in the NCAA Division I & II, NAIA as well as NJCCA. This environment continues to produce results for the team. Our staff is very pleased with the ability of these ladies to continue to rise to the occasion. They produced three school records, and 11 personal bests. Valerie Nzeakor competed in the Long Jump placing in the top 20 as she finished with a mark of 5.36m which was 19th overall in the event. In the triple jump for the Rangers the first personal record was set as Ladasheray Bell placed 23rd in the event with a mark of 10.56m, her new best.

In the 60m hurdles the Rangers had two compete in this event as Emily Smith and Alyssa Wilson each placed in the top 50. Smith finished with a 10.10 for 46th place in the event. Wilson set her new personal best in the 60m hurdles with a mark of 10.44 for 49th place.

Next for the Rangers was the 60 meter dash as the Rangers had five individuals set new personal records in the event. First for Northwestern was Shackera Douglas with a time of 7.78 placing in the top five of the event and her new record. Brianna Brantley was the second Ranger to place in the top 10 as she finished with a 7.79 in the 60m dash for ninth place overall. Tavonyia Lacy was the second athlete to set a new personal record in this event with a mark of 8.09 finishing in 48th in the event.

Continued in the 60m dash was Valerie Nzeakor placing 58th in the event and running a 8.18 for the Rangers. Riley Midgett followed placing 64th in the field with a mark of 8.20. The third personal best was set by Aja Johnson in this 60m dash event with a mark of 8.24 and placing 68th in total for the event. Shakira Lane placed 72nd in the event with a final marking of 8.28. Anayah Green was the fourth Ranger to earn a personal best in the event with a time of 8.51 as she placed 85th in the event. Finishing right behind Green was Raegan Thurmond with a time of 8.53 which was Thurmond's new personal record as the fifth Ranger to do so in the 60m dash.

The Red-and-Black found more success in the 200m dash keeping momentum as three personal bests were accomplished along with a new school record by Brantley. Brantley finished 30th overall in the event with a mark of 25.66 which is the new school record along with her personal best for the event. Douglas was the next finisher for the Rangers in 42nd with a time of 25.97 earning an accomplishment of her new personal record. Tavonyia Lacy did the same thing in this event setting her own new record with a final mark of 26.14 for 48th in the event. Midgett placed 74th overall for the event with a time of 27.03.

Renaja Engermann competed in the 400m dash finding success. She placed 46th overall in the event setting a new school record with a mark of 1:00.96 also setting her personal record.

Next for the Rangers was the Distance Medley as the Rangers placed 20th in the event with a team of Leiyah Light, Gina Wilson, Kate Foster, Libby Goodnow.

The Rangers next event was the 4x400 meter relay as Northwestern once again set a new school record for this event. A team of Renaja Engermann, Brianna Brantley, Ladasheray Bell, and Tavonyia Lacy brought in the new record with a 4:04.35 placing 19th.
